Vote Rocky King
Sheriff of Polk County
Rocky speaks about his commitment to our communities.
Being active in the community is very important to me. Volunteering as a youth football coach for more than 16 years has taught me a new set of leadership skills. Coaching these young men has taught me just as much as I taught them. Many children today need to have that positive leadership and guidance. Each child is different and you must find that way to help them reach down deep and find the best in themselves. Under my leadership as the Chief of Police in Benton, we placed School Resource Officers in our schools when no one else would. We have presented programs in schools all across Polk County teaching driving awareness, speed prevention, distracted drivers, texting and driving, drug and alcohol use and how to make smart decisions.
We have presented programs to churches and community organizations about fraud prevention. Delivering information about the latest frauds that our citizens are facing and how to prevent them.
In 2013, we began a new program offering the Handgun Carry Class for obtaining the State of Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit. With much of the national news headlines talking about banning certain weapons, many people in our community feared losing their second amendment rights. I strongly believe that the good, honest, law abiding citizens of Polk County have the right to protect themselves. I believe in and support the second amendment of our Constitution of the United States of America. We were able to offer the Handgun Carry Class for a very affordable cost, the cost was just the correct amount to cover shooting range for maintenance. To date we have provided this instruction to over 500 of our citizens.
