From the Principal's Office
Good Morning Lancer Families,
Apologies for the late delivery! Gremlins in the wires....
Welcome to Homecoming 2023! This week, we are celebrating Thousand Oaks High School's 60th Homecoming Week, and we have a lot going on. The kick the week off, we will be holding our annual Homecoming Rally on Monday. Students may attend the rally in the gym, or, should the prefer, may view the rally through live stream in the PAC. Students who are on campus will have to be in one place or the other. In order to accommodate the rally, the school will be using its rally schedule on Monday.
Monday: Class Color Day (9th grade - blue, 10th - green, 11th - white, 12th - black)
Tuesday: Twin Day
Wednesday: The 60s Day
Thursday: Bikers v. Surfers
Friday: PJ Day
Get in the spirit and have some fun!
Next, the annual administration of the PSAT will be taking place on Wednesday. While not an official part of Homecoming, it will have an impact on our campus. Testing will start at 8:00 am and will end around noon. Students who have registered for the test should report to their testing rooms at 7:45am. Testing room assignments are currently posted in the office windows facing the quad as well as the College and Career Center (Room D2).
Students will be testing in the I and J wings, the gym, and the library. Once students are released from testing, they will report to their normally scheduled classes.
Students not taking the PSAT will report to the MPR (Seniors) and the PAC (9th-11th) during their English class for a presentation.
We have over 400 students participating in the PSAT, so we are asking that teachers not introduce any new material and use the day for review/make up.
Our Homecoming football game is scheduled on Friday night at 7pm when we will be taking on Moorpark HS. Not only will you be treated to an outstanding game (our Lancers are currently undefeated and are marching toward a league title), you'll have the opportunity to watch our amazing Halftime show. In addition to be treated to our normally scheduled band, cheer and dance performances, you'll see our annual Homecoming Parade which pays tribute to our 1962 roots, you will be on hand to learn who our Homecoming Royalty is and we'll finish it off with a dazzling fireworks display. Get your tickets soon as we are likely going to sell out (instructions below).
Last, but certainly not least, our Homecoming Dance will be happening on Saturday, October 15th. Held under the stars (the blacktop south of the the gym), there will be plenty of activities in addition to dancing. A video game lounge, snacks, drinks, photo booths and of plenty places to sit and visit. Information on tickets can be found below.
Let's make it a great Homecoming Week! Thanks for all you do to support every Lancer, every day.

PSAT
This coming Wednesday, October 12th, over 400 of our students in 9th, 10th and 11th grade will take the PSAT exam. Testing will take place in the Gym and in the I and J classrooms from 8:00 am to approximately 12:00 pm. Testing room assignments are posted outside the front office (facing the quad) and outside the College and Career Center. Students need to report to their testing room not later than 7:45 am.
In order to facilitate a quiet testing environment around the I and J wings and in the GYM, students not taking the PSAT will attend presentations during their normally scheduled English periods. Students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades will report to the PAC for a guest speaker, while seniors will report to the MPR for a Senior Activities presentation.
Please remind students that they must have their school ID with them at all times, especially on Oct 12th. Students attending the presentations in the PAC/MPR must present their ID for attendance purposes. Those taking the PSAT must present their ID to enter the exam rooms.
For questions regarding the PSAT, please reach out to Mr. Cruz (mcruzjr@conejousd.org) in our College and Career Center.
Lancer Cup Standings
The Lancer Way
Beginning last year, many in our community have been calling for a reaffirmation of our school's Core values and expectations. This year, the TOHS Site Council wrote an action into its School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) to fulfill this request. After multiple conversations with the staff, students and our Site Council, we have finalized the Lancer Way. We will soon begin a PR campaign so that everyone in the community is aware of it. This will also be used as the framework of how we reward students points in our new 5-Star Students program.
Learn something new every day

Athletes of the Month for September
From Coach Thompson-Boys Cross Country:
Liam Papavasiliou as the Boys Athlete of the Month for September. Our team competed at the Woodbridge Invitational, the largest meet in the country. Liam led our boys team at this meet which has led to us being ranked 2nd in Southern Section Division 3 and one of the top 5 teams in the State.
From Coach Dewing-Girls Tennis:
Andrea Balcan. She is the captain of the team and plays amazing tennis. Andrea is a fantastic player who is able to overcome any opponent's attack on the tennis court. She is a very consistent player and has the ability to evaluate her opponent and make chances during the match. This mind set and athletic talent is why Andrea has a personal record of 20 sets won and losing just 1 . She is undefeated to date. She is also an excellent team leader and holds the values we won't for all of our students.

The Lancer Printing Center
Need to print an essay or other similar piece of school work for a class and don’t have a printer? Fear not! TOHS offers all Lancers access to the Free Lancer Printing Center. This is how it works: share your document (using your CVUSD Learn account) with TOHLancerLibrary@learn.conejousd.net (notice there is no S). Come to the circulation desk in the Lancer Library and once our library staff verifies it is school work, they print it, for free! You can access the Lancer Printing Center when the library is open (Mon, Tues, Thurs 7:30-3:30, Wed 8:15-3:30, Fri 7:30-2:30). Don’t forget, you will need a pass from your teacher during class time!
Student Athletics and Activities

Athletic Contests This Week
Interested in Wrestling?
Wrestling is one of the Great Equalizer Sports. Anyone of any size, body type, sex, or ability can wrestle. If you are tall, short, heavy, light, big, small, male, female, fast, slow, hyper, kick-back; any extreme or anywhere in between, you can become a wrestler. There is no one 'type' of wrestler or wrestling body, so if you have an interest, we can use you for the 2022-23 Squad. The Lancer Wrestling Team is looking for anyone who would be interested in checking out the sport.
The best way to get involved is to go to room D-9 and speak with Coach Lyne in his history room. You can also email him at klyne@conejousd.org. for additional information. Or, we have a 6th period PE class that meets in the Boy's Activity Room, if you want to come and catch us there.

Girls Wrestling is Looking for Interested Students
The Lancer Girl's Wrestling Team is looking to increase our presence in the Marmonte League. Last year we led the League with 2 League Champions. Girl's, did you know that the fastest growing sport in College is Women's Wrestling. Over the last year, and average of three colleges have added women's wrestling to their sports line-up every month.
There are currently 117 colleges, from NCAA D1 Universities to the Junior Colleges that offer wrestling programs for women, many with scholarship opportunities. These scholarships are available because of the small numbers of high school female wrestlers. If you would like a shot at an athletic scholarship to help you get into college, the Lancer Girl's Wrestling Team might be for you.
For more information, please contact Coach Lyne, TOHS history teacher, in room D-9 or at klyne@conejousd.org, or Coach Ritterbush at dritterbush@conejousd.org.

High Speed Internet for All
High-speed internet has become a necessity of modern life, which is why the Ventura County Office of Education is supporting a statewide effort to make it available to everyone.
The California Broadband Council is spreading the word that low-income families can receive a $30 monthly discount on home internet service and a $100 discount on a computer or tablet. There are about 80,000 households in Ventura County who are eligible for these discounts that haven’t yet applied.
