WSD and the TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE
Monday, August 21, 2017
Every WSD Building is in the path of totality!
1442 was the last year that the St. Louis area was able to witness a total solar eclipse. Every WSD student will be given proper solar eclipse viewing glasses so they may all witness this amazing educational opportunity of a lifetime! Each building is currently making plans to coordinate this day for all our our students.
What is a total solar eclipse?
Did you know?
For any particular spot on Earth, a total solar eclipse only occurs once every 375 years on average.
The darkness will cause the birds to stop chirping.
Total phase will last for a maximum of 2 minutes and 40 seconds in the center of the Moon's shadow.
The next total solar eclipse to go through the United States will be April 8, 2024 but will not go through Missouri.
