Interview with Executive Team Leader, Aimee Johnson!
Wow...you have consistently had the top pv for many months. I'd like to ask you some questions on how you run your business. I believe hearing from successful designers in the field is just as important as info from the Nest.
Q. Do you have a job outside of your home?
No, Origami Owl is my full time job.
Q. What are your thoughts on jewelry bars vs events?
Event are great for making contacts and immediate sales, but Jewelry Bars are absolutely the way to go. Think of it this way...if you do an 9-5 event and sell $1000, your approx. commission is about $400, which is $50/hr. Not bad, right? But if you do a 3 hour Jewelry bar and sell $1000, that's $133/hr (even at 4 hours, that's $100/hr)! Plus, you didn't have to pay vendor fees or for lunch and snacks, and most everyone who comes to a JB will buy something from you to support the hostess (where 'events' can be hit-or-miss). Make sure you are doing MORE JB's then events...and you'll see your PV increase. It's about working smarter, NOT harder.
Q. What method do you use to book more jewelry bars?
ALWAYS play a booking game at EVERY party!! Make it fun, offer a prize or bonus, and it works EVERY time. I have NEVER played and NOT gotten a booking. I average 2-4 booking per party as long as I play a game! I used to just say "Let me know if anyone wants to book a party" and MIGHT get 1 or 2, or none at all. Do a game EVERY TIME, even with just a few guests, and make sure to let them know the hostess gets a half price item if they book!
Q. How important is hostess coaching and what are your top tips?
It's HUGE. I set up a Facebook event for EVERY home party or book party I do (as long as my Hostess is on Facebook), and I coach her to reach out to EACH guest individually. I also recommend she keep her 'online' invitation list small, but that she post to her personal page that she is having a party. Prior to her party, I have her reach out individually again to remind guests by phone (call or text). And MAKE SURE she fills out her wish list! This gives the hostess a "visual" of what she wants, and if it's a long list, she KNOWS she will need more guests to get everything!
Q. Any tips on organization of your parties and calendar?
Have Hostess and Opportunity Packets prepared BEFORE the party so that you're not spending time putting one together when you need to be checking guests out. Print out a SIMPLE month-view calendar sheet to take with you and mark the days you are available for parties. YOU need to be in control of your Calendar...DO NOT let your calendar control YOU. I have a TON of activities on my calendar and choose NOT to show my guests all I have going on (some is personal, some is business). For me, it's easier to JUST mark the days I have available (or even just "hot-days" I really want to book). This make scheduling a breeze!
Q. Any other advise on how to have a successful party?
*KNOW how long it takes you to set up, and plan accordingly. Guests often arrive early...make sure you are all set up and ready at least 10 minutes prior to the party start time.
*Mingle with the guests as they arrive and DO NOT talk about O2 yet...just get to know the guests and join in the conversations.
*Take control and do a presentation...EVERY TIME. If guests start playing with your display, simply say "Feel free to look...I'll get started shortly".
*Keep your presentation short and sweet, but HAVE FUN and ENGAGE your guests. Excitement is contagious, and I'm often told "I can tell you love what you do". I certainly DO! If you make your job look fun and enjoy what you do, others will want to do it to.
*Look for clues to better serve your customers. For example, if someone is asking a lot about prices, then they probably have a budget in mind or not a lot to spend. You want to make sure you share the Hostess Opportunity with them and how they can earn free and discounted jewelry, and maybe help them find lower cost options at the party so they can still support the hostess, but stay within their budget. A budget-conscious shopper will appreciate you NOT trying to sell them the most expensive items! And if a guest is standing back or overwhelmed, maybe offer her a book to look through, or hand her a pair of tweezers and a votive cup and encourage her to PLAY!
*Upsell and Cross Sell, but DON'T be pushy! It's as simple as saying things like "Did you see the gorgeous earrings that match the locket you chose?" or "Don't you love how easily you can change your look with our leather wrap bands and twist faces?", or "Have you thought about an Inscriptions plate to pull your whole story together?". Offer options and show variety.
*Look for guests having a ton of fun and drop seeds like "You would make a fabulous designer!", "I can totally see you doing my job!", and "Wow, you've got a great eye for this!"...but be GENUINE.
*When your hostesses do REALLY well, post it on your social media page! For example, I might post "WOW! My hostess had an amazing party tonight and has earned over $200 in free and discounted jewelry! Way to go Jenny! I really enjoyed meeting all your awesome friends." This gives her recognition for a 'job well done', and shows others what they can earn, too!
October was a great month! Keep up the amazing work and please let your mentor or myself know if you have any questions!
