Genesee County Student Opporunity to study CNC Machining

What is CNC Machining?

CNC Machining is the production of machine tools using “computerized numerical control” lathes, mills, and other material removal machines in order to produce precision parts and instruments. Students gain technical skills and knowledge to operate CNC tools, measuring equipment, lathes, mills to perform critical tasks for the manufacturing process.

Machining is the setting up and operation of a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Machining is also using tooling to remove material from a work piece


A new program in CNC Machining program will begin in the fall of 2014 offered by Genesee Area Skill Center in partnership with Baker College of Flint.

Mike Martel, from the Career Placement Department at The Genesee Area Skill Center will be presenting a special look at the new CNC Machining program which will begin in September 2014.

Mr. Martel will discuss:
  • The current demand for employing people with CNC skills
  • Pay-scales for people working in this field
  • The Dual-Enrollment Certificate Program
  • How to apply for the program
  • Who's eligible to participate in the program
  • Future careers
  • Next steps and questions and answers from students

GenNET ITV April 28, 2014 Information Session Details

If counselors and administrative staff would like to have students attend and participate in this special ITV event, please complete the registration from below. Note the following details:
  • Mr. Martel will be located at one GenNET ITV Site, however up to three additional schools will be able to be interact live with Mr. Martel via the GenNET ITV system from 9:45-10:40 am on April 28, 2014.
  • The following schools do NOT have an ITV class during this time and would be able to participate in this special event:
  • Atherton HS
  • Beecher HS
  • Bendle HS
  • Carman-Ainsworth HS
  • Fenton HS
  • Flint Northwestern HS
  • Flint Southwestern HS
  • Grand Blanc HS
  • LakeVille Memorial HS
  • Montrose Hill McCloy HS
  • Mt. Morris EA Johnson HS
  • Swartz Creek HS.
  • Other sites who sign up after the first 4 will be able to see the presentation and hear student questions answered in a "view only" format
