A Principal's Perspective
Greetings, Renaissance Family!
We have successfully wrapped up the 1st 9 weeks here at Renaissance and students are currently scheduled in their new 2nd 9 weeks courses. Remember if your student stays on track and earns credits in all assigned classes they have the potential of working ahead.
Due to the unique structure of Renaissance students also have an opportunity to earn credits for work study and community service. Students can earn up 6 credits in each. Check out the break down of hours and criteria below.
Work Study/Community Service Credits
Renaissance does award credits for both Work Study and Community Service.
Students can earn a total of 6 credits for Work Study and 6 credits for Community Service.
Renaissance reserves the right to pull a students work permit due to poor attendance.
Please note that Renaissance is not obligated to adjust a student’s schedule to meet their work schedule needs. Schedule changes are at the discretion of Administration.
Work Study
150 hours -- 1 Credit
200 hours -- 2 Credits
300 hours -- 3 Credits
400 hours -- 4 Credits
500 hours -- 5 Credits
600 hours -- 6 Credits
Community Service
40 hours -- 1 Credit
80 hours -- 2 Credits
120 hours -- 3 Credits
160 hours -- 4 Credits
200 hours -- 5 Credits
240 hours -- 6 Credits
With Fall Break right around the corner I would encourage students who are working or participating in community service to build up their hours. Breaks are a great opportunity to knock out some of the required hours. If jobs are requiring verification that students can work additional hours outside of the normal allotted hours please stop by the front office for a "letter of verification."
Words of Wisdom:
"The most important life lessons we will ever learn will be from the bad decisions we make. Time and experience can be excellent teachers when you actually learn a lesson from your poor decisions. Experience comes from our way of living, understanding and the adjustments we make. It also comes from suffering, agony and the ordeals we are afflicted by."
“Good judgment comes from experience and experience comes from poor judgment.”
"We need to learn from our mistakes so that we do not run the risk of repeating them. We must develop the wisdom and sense to make good decisions and choices. Good judgment will only develop if you truly learn from your mistakes. Unfortunately, for many people, it takes a few repeats of the same mistake to learn the lesson."
"Good or bad, experiences are what help us learn lessons and form a better sense of judgment. Bad judgment seems to stick with us longer as a lesson learned because we really do not want to keep repeating it. Wisdom is the knowledge you can gain from making mistakes."
“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” — Albert Einstein
Your Input Is Needed & Wanted
This fall, MSD of Warren Township will be creating a comprehensive strategic plan based on community input that will ensure all students and staff have the conditions necessary to develop and apply Journey of a Graduate (JoG) skills and dispositions.
The Journey of a Graduate skills are a set of 6 skills and dispositions that have been identified by our community needed for success in and out of school. The JoG skills are Critical Thinking, Citizenship, Communication, Collaboration, Content Knowledge, and Resilience.
These JoG skills will serve as the foundation of the district strategic plan.
One way the district will capture community input is through an online survey. Linked below is a short survey that will ask questions around our strengths as a district and help us identify areas for improvement.
(Click on link below to begin survey)
Town Hall Meetings will also be scheduled for our teachers, students, parents and community to collaborate in person. Elementary school Town Hall Meetings will be hosted by their feeder intermediate and middle school.
Those meeting dates are below:
Monday, October 21st, 6:00 - 7:30 at Raymond Park Intermediate and Middle School
Tuesday, October 22nd, 6:00 - 7:30 at Creston Intermediate and Middle School (GC, LA, EA)
Monday, October 28th, 6:00 - 7:30 at Creston Intermediate and Middle School
Tuesday, October 29th, 6:00 - 7:30 at Stonybrook Intermediate and Middle School

Dean's Corner -- Discussion With The Dean
Renaissance Family,
The second quarter of the year is here and it seems like we just started. Although there have been some disruptions, I feel as though students are taking school more seriously. It is a great thing for an educator to see students grow over their time at a school. Many of the seniors that we have had for a few years are putting themselves in a position to graduate and move on to great things after that.
Parents, please continue to support your student and encourage them to complete their credits. Remind them to ask for help when needed. The staff at Renaissance will do everything in our power to put your student into a position of success, but it starts with the student first.
“Work hard for what you want because it won't come to you without a fight. You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive.”

CORE CORNER --Order
or·der
/ˈôrdər/
noun
the arrangement or disposition of people or things in relation to each other according to a particular sequence, pattern, or method.
"I filed the cards in alphabetical order"
There is a natural order to how many things are done in life and for the most part things run smooth if they are done with some type of "order". Warren Township places great emphasis on the need for students to exhibit or show "Order" and/or be mindful of how things operate. It is important that students are mindful of "order" in all that they do in order to be successful and successfully navigate through life. When we operate with a sense of "order" we operate within a set of rules that are typically designed to help one meet a goal.
Middle School Moment

Reminder: Next Tuesday will be parent/teacher conferences. Students will NOT attend school that day, but they may come with you to the conferences if you like.Your student should have brought a letter home for you to sign up for a time to meet with the middle school team. If you didn’t see the letter, no problem. The 6:30 time slot has already been reserved, but all other 30 minute sessions from 11 to 6:00 are still available. If you would like to reserve a specific time slot, please email Mrs. Shaw at kshaw@warren.k12.in.us.
The 8th graders had an absolute blast at the state fairgrounds on Wednesday. We attended the Junior Achievement JobSparks event. Students participated in hands-on experiences in a variety of professions ranging from Aviation to Zoology. Our students took particular interest in the medical field, Department of Natural Resources, FBI and Forensics, the US military, mechanical engineering, and technology. A few got to land an airplane (virtually!), investigate a crime scene, extract DNA - and KEEP it!- and participate in CPR classes. Our day topped off with amazing nachos back at school. Thanks Ms. Sam!! 7th graders, it’s your turn next year. We hope you have as much fun as WE did!!
We’re almost there!! Fall break will start at the end of NEXT week. Business as usual all week with the exception of parent/teacher conferences on Tuesday.
