Wrightstown Ravens' News
November 5, 2021
I would like to thank all of the parents that helped organize and run Halloween classroom parties last week. Students had a great time and fortunately, we were able to hold the parade outside for all to enjoy! If you were not able to attend the parade, please enjoy the video included below.
Additionally, I would like to thank everyone who has been directly impacted by the cancellation of morning or afternoon buses. I know that this situation impacts families and I appreciate your continued flexibility. On those days when an afternoon bus is canceled, we will begin our dismissal process at 3:30 p.m. in an effort to move car riders through the car line as quickly as possible. Thank you, again!
Each month the Positive Behavior Intervention Support team reviews and analyzes data to determine specific areas in need of re-teaching expectations. The bus is an area that we will continue to teach students about ridership expectations. For target areas, a bulletin board with reminders is displayed in the hallway. Please see the picture below.
Friendly reminder: Daylight Savings ends this weekend, so set your clocks back on Sunday morning.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Beth

Brighten the Holidays for a Child
Give joy this holiday season by donating a toy for one of the children living at Pediatric Specialty Care (PSC). Each year, the Gigi Project distributes toys that bring joy and comfort to children spending the holidays at PSC. For the past few years, WES has supported PSC during the holidays and we are happy to do so once again for children in need. Your donated toy will directly benefit a medically fragile child. Sign up for a toy and make the holidays a little brighter. Please click on the WES Gives Back link below!
6th Grade WES WORDSMITHS SCRABBLE CLUB
Thanks to a CREF grant, we are excited to announce the start of the WES WORDSMITHS SCRABBLE CLUB! This club will focus on playing the game of Scrabble, learning strategies, and having some friendly, competitive fun! The first session is for 6th GRADERS ONLY and will take place before school in the cafeteria from 8:15-9:00 am on Wednesdays in December. 5th Grade will meet in January and 4th grade will meet in February. 6th graders if you are interested, please register at the link below! Space is limited so register ASAP! Please contact Mrs. French (jfrench@crsd.org) if you have any questions! See you at the Scrabble board!
Rory Raven Rewards Return!
During the month of October, WES welcomed the return of our Rory Raven Reward system. This is part of our Schoolwide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program (PBIS).
Each day, a Raven Reward card will be given to five different students when recognized for meeting expectations for being Safe, Responsible, or Respectful.
Here's how it works:
- At 3:25 an announcement will be made for any students who received a Raven Reward card, to go to the Guidance office. While at the office, they will pick a numbered tile and sign their name in the Celebrity Book. This number is written on the Raven Reward card as well.
- Each student who receives a Raven Reward will receive, by email, a Raven Reward Certificate. Their name will also be announced that day before dismissal.
- The numbered Raven Reward cards will be placed on the Principal's 100 board outside the cafeteria in the numbered space that corresponds with the number the child has taken.
- When 10 Raven Reward cards line up in a row (horizontally or vertically), the ten students whose Raven Reward cards are in that row or column will win a Mystery Motivator prize. Mrs. Fox will pick the student Mystery Motivator envelope. Students were surveyed for feedback regarding motivators: Examples of some prizes include, donuts with Mrs. Fox, extra recess, free homework pass, and class pajama day just to name a few!
- From the ten student Raven Reward cards that make up a row or column, one Raven Reward card is chosen and the teacher who gave the ticket also receives a Mystery Motivator Prize.
The students enjoy this program, and it helps to teach and reinforce the consistent rules and expectations for our school. PBIS provides a greater focus on recognizing children for making good choices and being safe, responsible, and respectful.

School Counselor's Corner
Be a Buddy, Not a Bully week was a fun way to bring awareness to National Bullying Prevention Month. Students at WES pledged to:
Speak up when they see bullying
Reach out to others who are bullied
Be a friend whenever they see bullying
Thanks to all who participated in the themed days! Here are some great additional resources for parents from the National Bullying Prevention Center.
Literacy Corner by Mrs. Paula Etgen
October was an exciting month at Wrightstown! We had two virtual author visits!! Chrysa Smith visited our 2nd grade class, and Gary Spack shared his books with our 3rd graders. Wrightstown students were an amazing audience - they actively participated in the visit by responding to and asking questions! Both authors graciously volunteered to personalize books for students as well. In the month of November, author Katey Howes is returning for a virtual visit to our fourth-grade students. Hopefully, each grade will be able to enjoy one virtual visit from an author this year!
As the holiday season approaches, please reach out if you need any book suggestions for your children. I do have some leveled book ideas on my website, but if you have other more specific questions, please let me know. I would be happy to help!
BOOK FAIR COMING SOON!
The BOOK FAIR is coming! We are so excited to welcome back an in-person book fair the week of December 6th- December 10th. Students will shop during their library class time and will have a chance to preview the book fair to make a wish list earlier in the week. Families can also shop online together. Stay tuned for more information as it gets closer! Happy reading!

"Little Rock Stars" Preschool Program
The "Little Rock Stars" Preschool Program at CR North is currently open for enrollment! This is a laboratory type program in which the high school students learn about child development and the skills needed by preschool teachers and caregivers. The students utilize what they learn to plan and prepare activities and lessons for the children. And, of course, it's lots of fun to interact with all the wonderful children at preschool!
This program requires that your child is between the ages of 3 and 5, potty-trained, and demonstrates appropriate behavior. Our program is held every other school day from 8:50-10:30 AM during the Fall and Spring sessions (you may view our calendar here). The cost of nursery school is $80 ($40 per semester) to cover the cost of snacks, equipment, supplies, and other items for your child. This program will be following the CRSD Preschool COVID Policy.
If you are interested in enrolling your child for this program, please fill out this form. Spaces are limited. Enrollment is first come first serve!
For more information about our program, please visit the Little Rock Stars website.
