PRE Specials Weekly Update
Continuous Learning Opportunities
April 27th - May 1st
Below you will find a link to the Specials Choice Boards. The expectation is that students would complete 7 activities from each board by the end of the semester. That equates to ONE activity per day. We will also continue to provide you some opportunities to keep learning and practicing skills in each week with this newsletter. We hope you'll take the time to try some or all of these while you are at home social distancing. Please know these activities are NOT required but sure are fun. We hope you enjoy them!
Parents--the Specials teachers will have "office hours" from 9-3 during the week. Please email us with any questions/concerns and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

ART
Street art 101
Some Street Art Inspired Activities:
- Use sidewalk chalk to design a mural on your driveway to inspire others. Use pictures, words, shapes and colors to communicate your idea!
- Decorate a flower pot to communicate a message and put it on your front porch.
- Create a mini building and design mini murals for the outside! (see my video below!)
- Use a lunch sack to create your building, OR
- Using any kind of paper, cut 12 strips and fold them in half vertically. Each strip needs to be the same length. Mine are 5 inches long.

Music
Movement and Music Activity
This activity is for all students who want to get up and move to music! Invite your whole family to join in on the fun! The picture below shows what movement you will do for each shape. Click the link below to try it with the music!
Let's put your instrument creations to use!
I have LOVED seeing pictures and videos of all the instruments you created from materials you found at home! This week, let's test them out and see what else we can find around our house that makes music. If you don't have a homemade instrument, no problem - I'm sure there are lots of items in your home you could use! Find one item that will work for each sound.
1) Find something you can play made of wood - example: pencils on the table.
2) Find something you can play made of metal - example: pots, pans, silverware.
3) Find something you can shake - example: container with beans inside.
4) Find something you can scrape - example: scrape a pencil on a textured object.
After you have found all your items, and you have checked to make sure it's okay to play what you found with your parents, it is time to start playing. Explore each sound and different ways to play each item you've found - I'm sure you will be able to find more than one way to play it! Below, you will see a picture that is separated into four groups. Choose an instrument for each color and place it in front of you to match this order - it will make it easier to play.
Library
This week if you are looking for an extra activity to do, we are sharing a link to Dav Pilkey at Home! As many of you know Dav Pilkey is the author/illustrator of the Dog Man series and Captain Underpants series, plus many more great books. This website has lots of videos of how to draw your favorite characters, read alouds from Dav Pilkey, and even more activities to do at home with his books.
