Dear Parents,
This month brings terrific opportunities to get our community together to celebrate. We have Parent-Teacher Conferences, Valentine's Day Parties, and our 5Essentials Survey which are all great opportunities to talk about the positive things happening at Oak Grove.
Parent Teacher conferences are occuring on February 13th & 14th. Please make sure to ask your child's teacher or the office about your conference time if you do not already have a time scheduled. This will be a great opportunity for you to have some one-on-one time with your child's teacher to learn about their progress this school year.
During and after conferences, we will be asking you to participate in our 5Essentials survey. This survey does not take very long and gives us valuable feedback onwhere we’re doing well and where we need to improve. Every year the staff reviews the data from this survey and determines the goals we need to focus on. Please help us improve what we do for your children and our community by giving us feedback on our survey!
The staff and I hope to see you in our building several times this month. Through your presence and feedback, we hope to continue to make Oak Grove a terrific place to be.

Also at conferences, you will be given information about "Wishtree" by Katherine Applegate. Every family in our building will be given a free copy of this book and we will be doing activities that go along with the book as a fun way to get you and your family reading together! Please check Facebook and our website for more information that will be coming soon!
"Wishtree"
Trees can't tell jokes, but they can certainly tell stories. . . .
Red is an oak tree who is many rings old. Red is the neighborhood "wishtree"—people write their wishes on pieces of cloth and tie them to Red's branches. Along with her crow friend Bongo and other animals who seek refuge in Red's hollows, this "wishtree" watches over the neighborhood.
You might say Red has seen it all. Until a new family moves in. Not everyone is welcoming, and Red's experiences as a wishtree are more important than ever.
Funny, deep, warm, and nuanced, this is Katherine Applegate at her very best—writing from the heart, and from a completely unexpected point of view. (www.wishtreebook.com)
