Why Should You Settle Here?
Patroonships which are large land grants are awarded to people who bring 50 settlers to the colony. The Dutch settled here because they wanted to expand their trade. The Dutch West India Company sent 30 families to the colony and now so many people live there.
Geography
New York is one of the 13 colonies which is located in the North. It is on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
Economic, Political, and Religious Benefits
Some people practice the Puritan or Catholic religion.
Protestantism was the main religion because both the Dutch and English were Protestant.
Economic gain was the reason for the colony's existence. Fur trade is the main type of trade in the new colony.
Government: New York has a governor and elected assembly. The charter of liberty gives free rights to all Dutch and English settlers. They also have religious freedom
Key People and Main Events
Henry Hudson, was an English captain in the service of the Dutch East India Company, and on a voyage for discovering a northern passage to India; but, failing in this, he proceeded along the shores of Newfoundland. The Hudson River was named after him. The Albany Congress occurred at Albany, New York in 1754 to help unite the colonies for defense against the Iroquois Confederacy.
