ACTS of Prayer Night
What a great start to our month of worship! We kicked off October with a Prayer and Worship stations evening that was such a special time of connecting with God in different and creative ways. It was a beautiful time to encounter God and reflect on who He is and everything He has done for us. We used as our guide through the stations a simple acronym that can be applied to any time of quiet prayer with God throughout our days and I wanted to share this simple guide: ACTS
A, Adoration: We spent time praising God simply for who He is. Praise God because He is our creator, our father, our protector, our king. Praise God because He is holy. Praise God because He does not change.
C, Confession: This was a time of confession, confessing our sins to God. Through this time of reflection we remember that God is faithful to forgive our sins.
T, Thanksgiving: Different than adoration (thanking God for who He is), we spend time thanking God for what He has given us. No matter who you are or what your life circumstances are, we all have something to be thankful for; by thanking God we also remind ourselves of our dependence on Him.
S, Supplication: The earnest request made in humility, supplication is when we can come to God with our requests. Whether we pray for our own behalf or on behalf of others God is faithful to hear our prayers. The answer may not always be what we want, but we know His wisdom and goodness know no bounds.
This simple guide helped us all encounter God in a significant way on Sunday, but it can also be applied to our personal prayer lives. God wants to meet us in prayer and He is faithful!
Can't wait for the coming weeks as we continue to worship Him!
A few quick reminders:
-In keeping with our theme for the month, we're inviting anyone interested in being a part of our youth worship team (vocals, instruments, etc.) to check it out this month. Because the youth team is off for the month this is a great opportunity to get plugged in without any pressure. We're asking that if you're interested that you'd come to youth group an hour early this Sunday (@ 5pm) every week this month. If you can't make it this week at 5, don't worry! We will work around and schedule conflicts and make it work!
Check out all the new announcements below!
This Sunday // Slug 9am & ignite 6-8pm
Free Parenting Seminar--Parenting Today's Teens
Lakeside Church is working the Folsom Cordova School District to bring this free parenting seminar to Folsom on Thursday, October 29th. This is a free event that will help equip parents to understand their teenager in his/her cultural context; help parents develop an authentic and effective parenting strategy for the teen years and beyond; and provide helpful strategies that will lead to hope and healing in the parent/teen relationship. With special guest speaker Chap Clark (author of Hurt 2.0 Inside the World of Today's Teenagers).
This is a great free resource for any and all parents in our community. Please pass this along to anyone you know may benefit from this seminar and for more information click here.

We are also in need of parent drivers for this event. Tickets are $19 per person, and money is due by November 1st. We will carpool to the game from Journey Church.
Costume & Candy Party
Refuge is having its first annual Costume and Candy Party! You will not want to miss this awesome night of crazy games, good food, tons of candy, and a Thriller Dance-off! This night is designed to be a very fun and safe alternative to other Halloween activities, and don't worry, everyone is still going to walk away with a ton of candy!
This event is free, we just ask that you bring a bag of candy to share with the group. Plus, there's a big prize for the winner of the costume contest! [please, keep costumes appropriate; nothing too scary, no demons, etc. :) ]
Ascent//A Month of Worship
We are so excited to focus on worship during the month of October! Each week we will welcome a guest worship leader who will not only lead music, but also teach the group a different perspective on what worship is. We spent the summer learning about who God is, now we want to learn why and how we worship him. Not only will our guests be leading musically but we've also invited an artist who will do live worship painting during youth group one night to teach on other ways to creatively worship God. You're not gonna want to miss a week of this!
