Academy of the Arts at Bransom
May 8-12, 2017
Note From the Principal
This week at school the state will be providing the next round of statewide testing for the year. The school will administer the reading and math "State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness" (S.T.A.A.R.) for all 3rd, 4th, and some 5th graders as well as the science assessment for all 5th graders. Due to the testing we are asking you to refrain from visiting the campus on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Also, if you have a message for a teacher, please go through the office (817-245-3600). We will transfer the message to teachers/students at appropriate times of the day. Teachers will be unable to open their emails and they will be without phones during all testing. (By the way, all students taking the S.T.A.A.R. for any subject will have access to breakfast on each morning they are testing. Just remind your child to go directly to the cafeteria when they arrive at school. Make sure to deliver them to school at least by 7:30 to ensure plenty of time to eat and get to class without too much of a rush.)
Remember that every parent is asked to make sure that students are ready for whatever is in the plan for the day whether it be state testing or regular daily learning. Plenty of sleep, nutritious meals, and daily encouragement are the basic necessities every child deserves everyday. We know that our parents work hard to ensure homework is completed regularly and provide engaging activities at home. For that we say, "Thank you!" The results of our collective hard work will show in the final weeks of school. Make sure that you keep attendance a high priority for the final days of school. Our doors open at 7:15 each morning. Don't be late. There is still so much to do.
Thanks for all you do,
Mrs. Burchfield

You can see there are a lot of events from now to the end of the year but I want to highlight a couple of big district events that you and your child will want to attend.
- First, the citywide Relay for Life will be held Friday, May 12 @ 7:00PM through Saturday, May 13, @ 7:00AM. On our campus we have collected some donations but we want to continue through this last week. The Relay for Life change buckets in each classroom will be combined to reach a $1000 goal. If we can reach this goal the students will each get a piece of tape to attach Mrs. Howell to the wall as a reward. We are still hundreds of dollars away so if you could donate just a bit more so we could reach this goal, everyone will appreciate it. (Almost everyone!)
- Another big event is the BISD Literacy Night in the Burleson High School Library Tuesday, May 16 @ 6:00PM. Mrs. Cech and the other district librarians are planning a fun night for all so put it on your calendar, make plans to attend and bring a friend.
- Finally, there is going to be a great citywide Character March on Saturday, May 20. The March will begin with sign-ups and line-ups at the flag pole at Burleson High School at 9:00AM. The Academy of the Arts is looking for a "Best Participation Trophy" so the more the merrier. We want bragging rights for the whole year. So be on time and please sign-in. Bring friends and family members to join us for a celebration of great character. Once the Character March to the stadium ends, the "City on a Hill" festivities will continue at the BISD stadium until 2:00. This will be a fun day so join us. Rumor has it that a free dress day may result for our participants - teachers and student. Don't miss it!!!
As We Begin the Wrap Up of the Year...
Play close attention not only to the school calendar for important events
but also to club calendars. Whether it be the
Pathway Players Club,
Bransom Sound,
Martial Arts Club,
Dance Club,
Runners' Club,
Bible Beach Club,
M&M Club, or
Cake Decorating Club,
clubs will be ending soon. Make sure you are aware of when the final meeting times are so your child will have proper pickup plans everyday.
A Couple of Safety Reminders
It is extremely important for all students to remain safe at all times before school, during the school day, and at the end of the day as well. Please note the following reminders.
- Students may not be dropped off anywhere on campus prior to 7:15AM. School employee supervision begins as soon as the front door opens at 7:15AM. We know that you understand that employees have to make preparations for the day prior to this time.
- Students may not be dropped off in the back parking lot unless your vehicle is parked and an adult can walk the student to the front sidewalk.
- Designated adults must pick up their students on time at regular dismissal, after tutoring, and/or after clubs to avoid fear in students as well as to give teachers and club sponsors the ability to return to their after school activities. Please call the office before 3:45 if there is an emergency that arises and your child can not be picked up promptly.
- Any student who is going home a different way than agreed upon with the teacher, must have a note from a parent with specifications for the changes. If a last minute change is made, a call to the office prior to 2:30 by the parent will be accepted and the message will be delivered to the teacher and student.
DON'T FORGET FREE BREAKFAST FOR STAAR PARTICIPANTS ON TESTING DAYS!
