The 5Essentials Survey is Here!
Each school year, teachers, parents, and students have an opportunity to share their views and perceptions about their school by participating in the 5Essentials Survey. 5Essentials survey information is a valuable tool used by your school to identify priority areas for improvement. As a parent, the 5Essentials survey is an opportunity to share your thoughts on the school's effectiveness.
The 5Essentials Survey will be administered online. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, is anonymous and asks questions about five areas that are related to important student outcomes, including improved attendance and learning. The five areas focused on are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
The survey is managed by the University of Chicago and the school does not have access to your identity or survey responses. The 5Essentials Survey window opened on February 2, 2021 and closes March 5, 2021. To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/

Palatine High School Virtual Pirate Booty Dash 5K Walk/Run is coming up!
Palatine High School Pirate Boosters Club
VIRTUAL PIRATE BOOTY DASH 5K Walk/Run
April 5-18, 2021
https://phs.schoolauction.net/piratebootydash
Adult - $25
Child - $20
The PHS Pirate Boosters Club is excited to announce our main fundraiser for the 2020-2021 school year, our Virtual Pirate Booty 5K Dash (Run/Walk). This will be in place of the Annual Dinner Auction. We are hoping to bring the high school community and the Palatine community together by getting out of our homes and getting active in a time that we all need our friends and family.
The PHS Pirate Booster Club exists to support and enrich the high school experience for students while they attend Palatine High School. They do this through fundraising, financial contributions to academic and extracurricular programs and services. In addition they award scholarships to graduating seniors each year. These are all important functions in high school. We hope to raise funds with our 5K Dash to raise the money needed to support the high school the way the Booster have been able to in the past.
We are hoping to be out of our deep freeze and now can get outside and begin exercising again. Come and participate with us by registering for the Pirate Booty Dash 5K Run/Walk and participate during the weeks of April 5-18, 2021. Walk your own 5K route or follow one of our suggested routes. The cost of the Dash is $25 for adults and $20 for children 18 yrs. old and younger. With your registration you will also receive a Pirate Booty Dash t-shirt. Now let's get out of our houses and begin training to walk or run a 5K for the Palatine Pirates!! While registering look for our 50/50 Raffle and our auction items that you can bid on.
Cold Weather/Recess Guidelines
I wanted to take a moment and remind everyone of the District 15 Cold Weather Recess Guidelines. This information was taken directly from our District 15 website: https://www.ccsd15.net/Page/67
Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should be dressed appropriately. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.
Staff members provide outdoor supervision at all times.
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
- Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.
For indoor recess, students are supervised in their classrooms.
Please reach out to our front office if your family needs assistance with winter clothing for your Sanborn student(s).
