Welcome to Year 1 at JSD
Week ending 6th September 2013
Dear Year 1 Parents,
Welcome back to school. The children have settled into Year 1 well and have had three action packed days of fun and activities in Year 1 already.
Our topic this half term is “When I Grow Up”. It is a wonderful topic with many opportunities for creative learning. At the end of this topic we will have a special Year 1 day known as ‘Grown Up Day’. On this day the children come dressed as what they would like to be when they grow up, such as a doctor, a builder, a chef, an artist, a florist and so forth. This will take place on Thursday 17th October. More details will be sent to you on Gateway nearer the time.
Just a reminder that next week specialist lessons start. If you haven’t already done so please send in PE kits on Monday. These will stay in school until half term.
Year 1 Specialist Days
You should all have received a ‘Welcome to Year 1 2013 – 2014’ coloured booklet which has hopefully answered any questions you may have about Year 1. If you need a spare copy of this booklet, please speak to the class teacher.
Thank you to those who have already brought in a water bottle. Remember to return these on Monday. We have already had some unnamed lost property so please make sure that everything your child brings into school is named, including snack and lunch boxes.
Next week we will start to read with the Year 1 children. Books will be sent home for your child to read and discuss with you. It is important that you remember to sign in the reading record every time you read with your child at home. We would encourage the children to read most nights.
Have a great weekend. We’re looking forward to another great week ahead.
