Teacher Appreciation Week was wonderful! I again am humbled by your outpouring of kindness. The sweet gifts, cards, flowers, the wonderful PTA goodies and having lunch and recess duty covered for a day were just fantastic! I thank you so much for all of your thoughtfulness and for sharing the greatest gift with me, your children.
I told the class and you have received several emails with information abut field day. Our 2nd grade clothing team color is green. I have a "head monster" green shirt with a cute monster on it. In the past some kids have decorated a green t-shirt with "McGhee's monsters" on it and drawn their own monster. Feel free to do that if this sounds like a fun project for your family. They can bring in their green shirt earlier in the week and use my sharpies and fabric markers to do it at school if they want. This is optional and they can totally just wear any green shirt they want with out any of the above. Please read the email I sent the other day from Mr. R with all the information about the day. We will be watching either Charlotte's Web or The BFG in the afternoon. The BFG is rated pg, so let me know if anyone as an objection to it and I will show the cartoon version that is G.
The chickens made our week so fun! We held them, observed them, cuddled with them and watched them run around on the floor in our circle. They have now gone to live with an OSE family that has a chicken coop and lots of space. It was a good learning experience and hands on science during our animal unit.
The kids survived our week of a topsy turvy schedule. This coming week , Mon-Wed, we will have our fine arts from 1:30-2:10. We will have our outdoor recess time either at the front of the school on the grassy area or on the kinder playground. STAAR testing will be going on in the upper grades.
Have a wonderful week!
April McGhee
WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Language Arts-We are still on research and nonfiction/expository articles. We are all just about finished with our big google slide presentations on animal characteristics. Ask them to log in to their google accounts on LISD website (lisd.net-resources-students-google apps-log in). You will love what they have created!
Science-We have continued work with food chains and are now adding hibernation and migration activities.
