News From Ms. Kramer's 4th Grade Class

Project Lead the Way

I'm so excited to announce that fourth grade has started the first module in Project Lead the Way (PLTW). PLTW encourages students to think critically and become problem solvers through a structured approach mirrored in the engineering design process.

Not only does PLTW have students apply STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) knowledge and skills, but it also stresses the importance of a growth mindset; teaching students that it is OK to take risks and make mistakes.

This first module we are completing is called Energy: Collisions. This module is all about force and energy and the importance of safety restraints in a vehicle. Students have been given the task of creating a safety restraint that will successfully keep an egg from cracking when placed in a student-made vehicle and rolled down a ramp. They are very eager to get started!

Craft Supplies Needed

As part of our geometry unit, students will be completing a project in which they will be designing a playground of their dreams. This playground will need to be created out of different geometric shapes and angles. Students will be making both a 2D and 3D model of their design incorporating the engineering design process being emphasized in PLTW.

With this being said we are in need of materials to make these playground come to life! If you have extra supplies at your house or just need to get rid of a few things please send them our way. Items needed include: pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, form paper, straws, felt, pom-poms.

Thank you for your help! It does not go unnoticed!
