School breakfast and lunch are free for our students. Please note that students who bring their lunches from home can buy a milk for 75 cents (or they can take a fruit, vegetable, and milk for no charge).

Testing Tips for Parents
ISAT testing is coming up for our 3rd-6th grade students here at Whitney. You may start to recognize an increase in some anxiety for your child during this time. There are several things you can do to help your child be successful.
1. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before the test.
2. On the morning of the test, your child needs to get up in plenty of time so he/she won't feel rushed.
3. Feed your child a good breakfast. Research shows that children do better on tests if they have had a good breakfast. (Whitney always provides this for all students.)
4. Do as much as you can to make your child feel comfortable. Try not to say things to make him/her feel more nervous.
5. Reassure your child that no matter the outcome of the test you will still love him/her. Encourage them to simply do their best.
6. Take an active role in your child's education throughout the school year. Let your child know you are interested in his/her learning by taking part in the entire process.
7. When the scores are sent to you, talk to your child's teacher and/or principal. This will help you to understand them more clearly.
8. Give your child praise even if he or she didn't do well on the test.
Whitney Family Swim Night
The Whitney Parent Advisory Committee has organized Whitney Family Swim Night at Goldfish Swim School on Monday, April 24th. See flyer below for information to sign up.
The Whitney Parent Advisory Committee meets once a month, and we would love to have more family members join us. Please reach out to our assistant principal, brigette.warner@boiseschools.org, or our Community School Coordinator, susan.dennis@boiseschools.org, if you'd like to get involved!
Thank you to Whitney Parent Advisory Committee volunteers for participating in the Idaho Lottery's Scratch Off for Schools Event. They raised $465 for Whitney!
Did You Know?
We also have a lot of exciting opportunities to learn outside of the classroom this spring. These include field trips and Whitney Friday Focus. Thank you for all you do to get your students to school each day!
Whitney Community School Services
We invite you to our in-person food pantry at Whitney Elementary. You are welcome to access any of the food or household items available. Contact Susan Dennis during school hours.
It's Still Jacket Weather!
Please help your children dress appropriately for being outside during the various seasons- and our spring weather changes quickly. We recognize that students learn better when they have opportunities to go outside for recess. The decision to bring students inside because of unsafe weather will be made by the principal or assistant principal. The safety of our students will be the deciding factor in the event of inclement weather. Specific recommendations are given for poor air quality, lightning, and cold temperatures.
Please pick up after your pet on school grounds so we can have a clean and safe place for our students to play. Thank you!
Capitol Classic Children's Run
Please note that this race takes place in June, and it is not a school event. Parents will be responsible for transportation and all supervision if participating.
