ST. MARY PHOENIX NEWS
December 7, 2018
Mrs. Marvin's Corner
Welcome to December! This Saturday is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The church teaches that Mary is immaculate, or without sin, from the moment of her conception. She is not without sin because, like Jesus, she is divine, but because, God chose to give that gift of grace to her. God gave Mary the gift she would need to bear and raise Jesus. Please join us in the celebration of mass this weekend. Masses will be celebrated on Friday Night at 5:30pm and Saturday Morning at 9:30am.
The upcoming week has some exciting events that you may not want to miss. On Sunday, we will be having our "School Open House and Pancake Breakfast" from 9AM to 1PM in the School Activity Center. Show your School Spirit and share the Good NEWS about St. Mary School with others. The Annual Christmas Program is Tuesday Night at 6:30PM. There are some new and exciting performances this year. The weather looks sunny and clear for Tuesday Night. We have many students and family members participating in the Nutcracker Performance this weekend also. Support our students and enjoy the holiday performance Friday through Sunday.

Mrs. Figley's Classroom
Teaching at St Mary’s has been a wonderful experience. This is my second teaching career, and it has been very rewarding. I retired from Wooster City schools after teaching mostly grades 7 and 8 language arts. I received my Bachelors in Secondary Education, English, and my Master’s in Adolescent Literacy. I am passionate about literacy in its many forms, and I work to broaden that scope for my students. Many think of literacy as reading and writing, but I want my students to understand visual and technology literacy as well because they all influence communication and understanding
I was born and raised in Wayne County. I now live in Holmes County with my husband, Jim Figley, who teaches at Edgewood. We have four children and two grandchildren. Matthew is a clinical pharmacist with Riverside Methodist Hospital. Alyssa is an accountant with Marathon Oil. Rachel and Bri are both in public relations. Rachel is with Fox Fuel Creative in Nashville, TN, and Bri is with Davey Tree in Kent. We love the outdoors and enjoy camping, boating, and cruising around on our Harley or in our Wrangler. I love creating, whether it is home remodeling or fiber arts. I sew, quilt, design, knit, crochet, and do vinyl work and paper crafts. We also have two dogs. Bram is a 200 pound English mastiff. Sampson is a 20 pound Bison mix. Our lives are very blessed.

St. Mary School Information
Since 1865, people have known St. Mary School students by their actions. This is because throughout our history, we have focused on building student’s character, based on the values instilled by the Catholic Faith, and a foundation of academic excellence.
St. Mary School provides a welcoming environment where families have the freedom to celebrate the faith. In a world of need, responsibility matters and strength is needed to serve our communities. It is our mission to develop students who have the ability to be mentors and leaders in the world. We recognize that each student is a unique gift from God and we individualize instruction to help them reach their full potential. We strive to promote an atmosphere that encourages a love of learning and provides children with a foundation of faith to balance and guide them for the rest of their lives.
