Mr. B's ELA:
Ms. Johnson's Math 6:
Students should have completed their choice board asking them to find the ratios of the colors of their t-shirts, the ratios of White to Non-White people in their favorite TV Show, the ratio of powder to water for making lemonade, among other options.
Our next unit is going to be on Rates and then after that we will begin talking about Percents. If you see any of these topics coming up in your day to day life, please point them out to your scholar! Take them grocery shopping with you to look at the unit rate of foods, or ask them first to try calculating the percent discount if using a coupon. These are fun topics because they are so often used in our real world, and I look forward to exploring them more in math class.
If you have any questions, or would like to share a short story on how YOU use Ratios, Rates, or Percents in your real life, please feel free to share them with me at Josephine.Johnson@stpaul.k12.mn.us and then I'll be able to pass on the stories to the other 6th graders, it's always nice hearing from another adult when they will "use this math in real life"!

Athletics Update:
This is a NON Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) or SPPS sponsored team. It is ran by the Minnesota Ultimate an outside organization. To read more about this organization please click this link: https://minnesotaultimate.org/middle-school
Right now there are plans to have a Spring Ultimate Frisbee Season for Middle School Students starting in mid March and ending in Mid June.
Here is a overview of what Ultimate Frisbee is if you don't know much about it: Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, a game of ultimate is played by two teams with a flying disc on a field with end zones, similar to football. The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponentβs end zone. A player must stop running while in possession of the disc, but may pivot and pass to any of the other receivers on the field. Ultimate is a transition game in which players move quickly from offense to defense on turnovers that occur with a dropped pass, an interception, a pass out of bounds, or when a player is caught holding the disc for more than ten seconds. This is a non-contact sport as well. Ultimate is governed by Spirit of the Gameβ’, a tradition of sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on the players rather than referees. Ultimate is played in more than 80 countries by an estimated 7 million people young and old.
Ms. Ekegren started the Ultimate Frisbee Team 7 years ago at Ramsey. Ramsey has a tradition of having fun and being pretty competitive in the Minnesota Middle School League and State Tournament.

Health Office Update:
Ramsey Resiliency:
Anxiety Management Continued.. There are two ways to work on managing anxiety. The first is by practicing prevention, spending time doing relaxation techniques on a regular basis to keep anxiety low. The second is by using techniques, in the moment, to help you calm down and manage a current stressful situation. To help you understand why practicing relaxation is important, think about your teeth. Do you wait until you have a cavity to start brushing your teeth? It's the same with anxiety. If you practice relaxation every day, you can better prevent anxiety from forming.
Food Pantry Update:
We are always seeking donations of food, diapers 5/6, personal hygiene products, and cleaning supplies. Please drop these items off on Friday's between 7am-12pm at Ramsey. If you would like to volunteer to help pack and sort out items on Friday mornings, please email Alicia.Ekegren@spps.org. If you have questions, please call 651-744-7397 or email Alicia.Ekegren@spps.org
