Opportunity for Teachers!
Burrell Behavioral Health’s School-Based Services program is excited to announce a free Back-to-School Bash and screening of the documentary Resilience: The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Springfield Art Museum (1111 E. Brookside, Springfield). The event will begin with networking and refreshments. At 4:30 p.m. we will show Resilience, which examines Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact on long-term learning and development in our students. Afterward, a panel of experts will discuss topics raised by the one-hour film, with additional conversation and networking to follow. The event is scheduled to end by 6:30 p.m.
Teachers who attend the screening will receive a certificate, which will prove attendance for professional development or continuing education credits (one hour).
No registration is necessary. Just show up and check in to receive your certificate.
You can view a trailer for the film at https://kpjrfilms.co/resilience/.

Updates from Crystal
- I checked all documents and the presentation utilized for the staff meeting was incorrect. The number of sub lesson plans listed in the staff handbook is 2. Sorry for any confusion this caused. If you added 3, you are ahead of the game (my bad...)!
- All staff should have completed their growth plan in Randa Tower. The next step is to meet individually with me to discuss your plan and how you rated yourself. Please use this form to schedule a 15 minute meeting with me. Be prepared to answer the following questions:
- What will you do to monitor progress toward meeting your goals?
- What are you measuring and what does success look like for each goal?
- We have talked about how you will monitor your growth and what success looks like, what can Misty and I do to support you in meeting your goals?
- What will you focus on during 20% time? How does this tie to the Tower goals discussed above?

Morning Duty....
- Deanna will now be on duty each morning outside-standing where the bus lane begins and cars exit the car line. We will put cones across the bus lane to prevent cars from entering that lane and potentially hitting a child who is following morning procedure.
- Casey will also be on duty at the cross walk near the Boys and Girls Club door. Casey will open the door to let bus riders in so bus riders can go directly to the gym. Currently, bus riders are walking around to the front of the building to come through the front doors. This will help prevent the large group of bus riders who block the hallway when we start dismissing students to class from the gym.
- I have also received concerns (not complaints) from staff regarding the gym in the mornings. It seems like students have problems controlling themselves in the mornings in the gym. This week I will be in the gym from 8:20-8:30 to lead a "brief" morning assembly (will conclude with the pledge at 8:30). This will be a time to share what we are having for lunch that day, do cheers, celebrate students and share any announcements we have for that week. My goal is to gain the attention of the students to provide more structure for those 10 minutes and hopefully help engage students to keep them out of trouble :). If it doesn't work, we will tweak it again!
- Amber & Barbara will still greet students at the front doors each morning and direct them to the gym.
- Lastly, there are 3 parents who want to help students get out of cars in the morning and greet parents. This will be allowed in the car line, but parents will not be allowed to direct traffic or inform parents of where to and not to park. This does not build community but division. Now that Sherwood staff are out there (and handy dandy cones), this should alleviate issues and help keep all students safe. I appreciate your flexibility and willingness to tweak things to improve! Deanna & Casey were MORE than flexible on Friday and I appreciate their willingness to jump into these two new roles.

#iTeachMO
The 4th season of #iTeachMO is just around the corner. The theme for the year is Make an Impact. Each month the chat will be aligned to Growth Plan Indicators. The first chat is Make an Impact: Build Real Relationships. (Indicator #2.1, 5.3) The power of the chat comes from a variety of educators learning together. Please encourage participation as you seem fit!

Safety Reminders from the ALICE Training
- Please make sure your classroom doors are locked at all times. Many of you have something you utilize to cover the lock, which is fine. Many of you have your door locked, but propped open each day-which is also fine.
- The Safety Committee is meeting this week. If you have any questions or concerns you would like us to discuss, please add them here. An agenda will be shared with all staff once the team meets to inform all staff of updates or changes.
- Please continue to be vigilant in asking people in the building with no ID badge or yellow sticker how you can help them. Everyone is doing a great job so far!
