Principal's Message
Dear Families and Students,
I hope as always we had another wonderful week! This week's newsletter is filled with many important reminders and announcements that we cannot wait to share with you.
In honor of Veteran's Day Sunday, November 11th, we would like to thank all of our veteran's for your service to our country. On Saturday, November 10th, 2018 Orlando Science Schools will be participating in the City of Orlando's Veterans Day Parade, we cannot wait to see you there!
As a reminder, our 2nd Quarter Parent Teacher Conference Night Sign-Ups will begin this Sunday, November 11th, 2018 at 7 PM. We ask that you carefully review the information and in the link before this date and time. It will cover sign up information and what to do if all time slots become full or the time and dates do not work for you.
Our Annual PVO Sponsored Thanksgiving Staff Potluck will be held on Thursday, November 15th, 2018, and we need your help to make sure this event is a huge success. Please see the information below on items we are still in need of and volunteer opportunities.
Congratulations to our FTC Kube Khaos team who placed at their first competition this past weekend. We are so proud of your hard work and dedication, keep it up!
The 2019-2020 Re-Enrollment process has begun, please see the information in this week's newsletter for more details. The deadline to fill out the digital re-enrollment form is November 30th, 2018.

2nd Quarter Parent Teacher Conference Nights Sign Ups Start This Sunday November 11th 2018
2nd Quarter Parent Teacher Conference Nights will take place during dates and times posted below. Sign Ups will take place beginning on the time and dates listed below. Please be advised OSS Staff Members are not permitted to sign up for a PTC for our Orca Families, so we ask that you please plan accordingly. We ask that once links are provided you read through the information carefully before selecting a time slot. Parents and Guardians may always email their student's teachers to make an appointment to meet that do not fall within these conference nights. Once spots are filled please email your student's teachers to arrange an appointment for another date and time, no additional spots will be added to these nights. There will be no wait list created, please check back for canceled time slots. Please be advised dates and times can change, and we will notify you via the weekly newsletter if they do.

2nd Quarter Parent Teacher Conference Night Sign Ups:
Sunday, November 11th, 2018 at 7 PM. Please review all the information above and in the link below. Time slots are listed in DATE order and then by GRADE LEVEL. It is very important to read ALL the information. This is just a reminder you will not be able to sign up for a time slot until Sunday, November 11th 2018 at 7PM.
Volunteer and Donate to OSS Staff Thanksgiving Feast!
OSS Middle/High PVO will be holding our annual staff Thanksgiving Feast during the day on Thursday, November 15th 2018 and we need your help to make it a success. Show your gratitude for our wonderful teachers and staff and sign up to donate food items or volunteer your time. We need items found on the link below and we need volunteers to help set up, serve food and watch students while teachers & staff enjoy their lunch with one another.
We will be hosting identical luncheons for both the Lynx and the High School campuses for all teachers and staff. When signing up using the link below, please make sure you are signing up for the correct campus (or campuses) you plan to support.
In the link below you will find a list of items we would love to have donated. Please consider showing your appreciation by donating your time to cover lunch duty and/or supplies to help make this event a success. The teachers and staff really look forward to sharing a hot meal together before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Your donations can be dropped off in the morning at either front desk. Please try to use disposable pans for easy clean up. Please label any items you would like returned with your name and pick it up at the end of the day.

Veterans Day: In honor of all who have served.
City of Orlando Veterans Day Parade: Saturday November 10th 2018
This Saturday, OSS will participate in the City of Orlando Veterans Day Parade. Students who have submitted their completed consent form will meet at Booth #27 on Orange Ave., between Robinson St. and Livingston St. Parents should park in the Courthouse Garage and then walk their child to Booth #27 on Orange Ave. by 9:30 AM.
Veterans Day Assembly: Monday November 12th 2018
On Monday, November 12th, the Social Studies Department will host a Veterans Day assembly during 2nd period. The assembly will include the Pledge of Allegiance, an instrumental performance of the National Anthem, and student performances. The assembly will highlight an interactive, student-led Q & A session with four veterans.
Re-Enrollment for the 2019-2020 School Year!
Re-Enrollment submissions will be taking place online this year. Please read all information carefully and complete the form at the following link no later than FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2018.
All current students will need to have a response. If this form is not submitted by the deadline on November 30, 2018, your student may lose his/her spot at Orlando Science Schools for the next school year.
This form can be completed on any computer or mobile device. *Please do not reply to this email requesting confirmation. You will receive an on-screen confirmation if your submission was successful.
As a reminder, the Re-Enrollment form contains the following sections:
- RE-ENROLLMENT FOR CURRENT STUDENTS: A separate form must be submitted for EACH student that is currently attending and would like to return. Check the appropriate box to indicate whether your student will be returning for the 2019-2020 school year.
- PRE-ENROLLMENT REQUEST FOR NEW (NOT CURRENT) SIBLINGS: If applicable, submit the siblings’ information and submit an Online Application for each sibling listed. If space is available to enroll the sibling(s) listed, you will be contacted via email with instructions on how to complete the enrollment process once a spot becomes available. If the number of siblings exceeds the number of seats available, a sibling lottery may be held. Please note: siblings are given preference, but immediate enrollment cannot be guaranteed if we are already at capacity.
Student Immunization and Verification of Residence must be up-to-date for Re-Enrollment submissions to be complete.
Osceola Science Charter Now Enrolling Osceola & Orange County K-8 Students for 2019-2020 School Year
Congratulations to Osceola Science Charter School on their move to a new campus! The K-8 school is relocating to a brand-new facility on the border of Osceola and Orange counties for the 2019-2020 school year.
The new, 70,000-square-foot campus features STEM and science labs, a media center, music classroom, performing arts lab, regular classrooms, a playground, basketball court, and football field.
Parents, please help spread the word among your community that Osceola Science Charter School (OSCS) is now accepting applications for Grades K-8 for the 2019-2020 school year. Details, including the Online Application and Open House dates, can be found on the school’s website: www.osceolascience.org.

The OSS FTC "Kube Khaos" Places at 1st Competition
Kube Khaos is a rookie First Tech Challenge robotics middle school team made up of ten teammates and two-parent volunteer mentors. The team has been meeting twice a week with two extra meetings since mid-September.
This past weekend Kube Khaos competed against twenty-two teams in their first meet.
The teams ranged from middle schoolers to high schoolers; rookies to veterans. Each team is asked to journal their team’s progress in an Engineering Notebook.
Kube Khaos has also received some tips and pointers by the OSHS Robotics Team and OSS alumni Carlos Barea. Each team used their robot that they designed, built, and programmed in six matches during the meet.
Kube Khaos won two of their matches. Only five trophies were awarded this past weekend- one in the following categories engineering notebook, one for each of the two top scoring teams, one for gracious professionalism, and another for rising stars.
We are pleased to announce that Kube Khaos was awarded the trophy for the best Engineering Notebook. Congratulations to the team on their victory and their hard work, we are very proud of you all!
OSS Model UN Competition Information
This Saturday, Alexander M., Aleena A., and Nicole S. will participate in Hornet MUN at Bishop Moore High School. Delegates will be faced with the challenge of rebuilding the United States after the Nuclear Fallout Crisis of 2058. Participating students should arrive at the Bishop Moore Student Center at 8:30 AM. Best of luck Orcas!

To reinforce the message delivered by these videos, OSS will show these videos to middle/high school teachers and students once per quarter in homeroom classes on these dates:

- Q3: January 15th 2019
- Q4: April 2nd 2019
Join OSHS at the OSHS Barnes and Nobles Book Fair!
OSS Family and Friends,
Do you plan on buying books for gifts over the holidays? Is there something you’ve been meaning to pick up but haven’t yet? Do you or you kids need study materials or books for class? OSHS is hosting our first Book Fair in partnership with Barnes and Noble. Do your shopping that the Barnes and Noble in Colonial Plaza (see flyer for address) on November 15 (or online from November 15-20, using our Book Fair ID#12440825) and a portion of your sales will come back to OSS. It’s that easy! We’re excited to invite you to help support OSS and to celebrate reading and our school.
All proceeds will go to the OSHS Media Center to help us put books on the shelves and make more resources available to our high school students, so mark your calendars now!
Throughout the evening, we’ll have 2 awards ceremonies, robotics interactives, and a SteamPunk Cosplay fashion show for your entertainment and edification.
Please feel free to let your friends and students know, too.

Registration Open for Orange County Math Tournament!
The Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society of Orlando Science High School invites all 4th and 5th grade Orange County students to compete at the Orange County Math Tournament (OCMT) to be held on Saturday, December 8th, 2018.
Registration is now open! If you would like to register your student for this year's Invitational, visit the Registration page and fill out the form with your student's information. Registration will be available until Monday, December 3rd, 2018.
Registration must be completed online at our website www.ossmualphatheta.com no later than Monday, December 3rd, 2018. Registration fee is $15 for each student and should be paid online via School Pay. The competition is open to first 250 students who applied.
The competition will take place at Orlando Science Elementary School campus which is located at 2601 Technology Drive, Orlando FL 32804.

Operation stock the library Book Drive Continues!
We would like to thank everyone once more for donating to the Lynx Lane Operation Stock the Library Book Drive. We have received so many fantastic donations and our shelves are becoming filled, we could not have done this without you!

Join the OSS Parent Volunteer Organization!
Dear Orlando Science Lynx Lane and Technology High School Families,
It is time, once again, to join the Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO). Membership is $25 per family for returning families and $30 for new families, your membership dues go directly back into the school to provide items and supplies for our teachers. We are also asking that PVO members work with specific committees (School Improvement, Fundraising, Volunteer Work, Teacher Appreciation, Events, Etc.) Please utilize the SCHOOL PAY link below to pay your dues.
If you have questions, comments, or requests, you may email OSS.PVO@orlandoscience.org . A formal PVO committee, including president and vice-president, will be announced at the end of the first quarter of the 2018-2019 School Year. PVO will hold bi-monthly meetings that will inform parents of progress, agendas, and upcoming events.
