21-22 District Calendar and Post-Planning Days
In preparation for the close of the school year, please see the information below as a reminder regarding post-planning days. Please note that the last day of school for students is scheduled for Friday, May 27, 2022. If unexpected inclement weather occurs and it is necessary to close schools, the district will utilize Weather Days scheduled for May 31, 2022 and June 1, 2022 to make up instructional days. Should there be no need to use these Weather Days, students will not be expected to report to school after May 27. Students will be dismissed at 1:15 pm on May 27th.
7th Grade Immunizations
Prior to the start of the school year, it is critical that all 7th grade students receive required immunizations and submit an updated Certificate of Immunization (DH-680). The attached letter should be printed and shared with parents of all rising 7th grade students with the end of the year report card and to the parents of any new 7th grade student as they register over the summer. The parent letter explains immunization requirements, including Tdap, plus information regarding the Florida Department of Health - Duval County (DOH) clinic locations and hours of operation. Students must submit an updated Certificate of Immunization (DH-680) at the start of the school year to avoid being excluded from school. Also, please make sure your school administrators and office staff are aware of the contents of the parent letter, in the event your school receives calls/questions. If you have any specific questions related to immunizations, please contact DOH School Health Services at 904-253-1580.

Student Opportunities:
The Sandy Miller Metrotown Institute
This OneJax Sandy Miller Metrotown Institute, named for the transformative leader of Metrotown, is a gathering of middle school students, entering grades 6-8, who come together to explore options for living successfully in an increasingly diverse and inter-dependent world. At the Sandy Miller Metrotown Institute students share ideas and feelings, discover their own unique talents, experience a variety of perspectives on diversity issues, multicultural communication, religious traditions, gender roles, and self-esteem. Participants create strategies for living and working with a multitude of differences
The Sandy Miller Metrotown Institute for middle schoolers will be offered in the summer of 2022 on June 11th and June 12th.

Free and Reduced Meal Applications
Next school year (i.e., 2022-23) when our district returns to operating under the National School Lunch Program, students at non-CEP schools will revert to paying for meals based on their determined eligibility status. If an application is not received before school starts or the student is not directly certified for free/reduced meal prices, a student will automatically be on a paid status at the start of the school year at our school.
Applications are also very important for the student/family because eligibility for receipt of other non-school benefits (such as Florida PEBT debit cards, SAT/ACT fee waivers, Summer Camps, discounted internet access) depends on a child's meal eligibility status. At Mandarin Middle School children can only become eligible for these additional benefits if they submit and receive approval of their free and reduced meal application.
Please contact Jane Zentko, Foodservice Director with additional questions at zentkoj@duvalschools.org or (904) 732-5145 x 1415.
