Students thrived this week with York's hands-on learning approach as 7th grade students became scientists studying marine population dynamics at the Suncoast Youth Conservation Center. Students caught & studied fiddler crabs and participated in a quadrant population study. Students also had rotation activities that included fishing, visiting the touch-tank room, and getting active with a simulated fishing resource game.
4th and 5th grade dug into their rocks and minerals science lessons with Diamond Del's Mobile Gem Mine right here on York's campus! Students were able to sluice boxes of mining ore, then work collaboratively to classify the rocks, gems and minerals based on their properties. Each student came home with a bag full of gems/minerals and a guide to identify them with.
Even our littlest Admirals experienced a learning adventure this week with VPK's trip to the Manatee Center. There was so much to see, and I bet our VPK students returned home with lots to say about all the things they observed!
With all of our exciting field trips and experiences happening lately, we've had some questions about what 6th grade will do. Well...hang on until May because 6th grade gets to spend THREE full days experiencing the activities and animals at Nature's Classroom! Details to come closer to the dates, but we wanted to let the inquiring minds know that it is scheduled and coming.
Thanks for all the parents who came out Monday evening for the PTSA Meeting and IB Information Night! It was a great night and we are excited for the IB journey that York is about to embark on. If you weren't able to attend, we hope to see you at our next meeting. Stay tuned for another IB Parent Night this spring - as we move further into the IB world we will keep you up to date on our status and what it means to be an IB student!
Our PTSA is in search of an individual with knowledge about installing engraved paver stones around campus. If you would like to donate your installation skill set or have a connection, please reach out to our PTSA by emailing president.dcyorkptsa@gmail.com.
