THS Parent Newsletter
October Edition
A Message From Our Principal
Dear Tennyson High School Families,
Welcome to October of the 21-22 school year! I can’t believe we've been in school for more than six weeks. This month comes with many important dates that we would like you to remember.
First, Back to School Night will be on October 21st via zoom. The flyer, that includes all the information needed for that night, will be distributed by early next week.
Second, October 29th is the end of the first quarter, so please monitor your students' grades by logging into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you need any support with the parent portal please contact our Family Support Team for help troubleshooting your account. Please click on the link to their website here. If you need more assistance, please contact our Family Engagement Specialist, Antonio Isais to better assist you. His email is ai299@husd.k12.ca.us.
Third, October 14, 2021 is the date that every student will be receiving a new chromebook. Students will come to the gym with their English classes. In order to receive a new chromebook, your child must bring their old computer, including their charger. Please help us remind students to bring their computer this Thursday October 14, 2021 to Tennyson High School.
Our College and Career team is here to support and is waiting for our seniors. It’s that time of the year where our seniors are applying to colleges. If your child is interested in receiving extra support with their college application, please have them come to the drop in hours every day, in room B5, until 5:00 pm. Cash for College Night is October 14th. If you were unable to sign up, seniors were paired with a mentor who will ensure they complete this important document for both 2 year and 4 year colleges.
Be on the lookout for our bi-weekly newsletter. We will be providing you with important information that will help you better understand what is happening at Tennyson High. If you have any information you would like for us to include in our newsletter feel free to contact us.
Again, we are here to support you and your child in any way we can. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to me either via email at vestrada@husd.k12.ca.us or by calling the school at 510-723-3190.
Let’s continue to work together to better support all our students.
Sincerely,
Ms. Estrada

Senior Presentations
In preparation for senior year planning, the Guidance Counseling Department and the College & Career Center team visited senior classes last week to discuss higher education options and how to prepare. There was a wealth of information shared ranging from post grad pathways and college systems, to college deadlines and additional support resources:
College Planning and Deadlines
1. Are you going to a UC or a Private College? Applications are OPEN! The UC deadline is 11/30 and the deadline for the Common App varies.
2. CSU Applications opened on 10/1 and close on 11/30
3. HBCUs and Out-of-State College application deadlines vary
4. Chabot College (Early Decision) application opened on 10/1
***Please complete the Senior Entrance Survey so we can get to know more about you and help support your plans for after graduation.
Financial Aid
Many students want to go to college but think it is too expensive or simply just need help finding ways to pay for their college classes. The GREAT news is that the Financial Aid Application helps most students get FREE money through Federal Grants (FREE money through the government!), Work-study (get paid to work on your college campus, and eligibility for student loans.

Meet with College Admission Representatives
Are you exploring colleges? We encourage all grades to meet with admissions officials from different universities; they are the people who could be reading your college applications when you apply! Get a chance to discover college campuses, academic majors and programs, student activities, and you'll have the opportunity to ask questions that will help you find the school best for you.
