Focus On Education

Our Brickies come from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs, and they work together to create a unique, vibrant learning community. Our classrooms are filled with different perspectives, ideas, and experiences that enrich the learning experience for everyone. Our students collaborate to create projects, solve problems, and make a positive impact in our community. This diversity of thought and experience among our students allows them to develop a greater understanding of the world, and of each other. It's inspiring to see our students come together and show that diversity is something to be celebrated! Check out what's been going on within our multifaceted Brickie community and see what's ahead for SCOH!
Brickie Kindergarteners Show Off STEM Skills With "Super Bowl" Engineering Fun!
There was some "Super Bowl STEM" happening over at The Early Learning Center on Friday morning! Students were given poof balls to figure out which size ball they should use for the size of their goalpost! (Some adjustments were made accordingly!) Way to use those brains, little Brickies!
The ELC is dedicated to giving our kindergarteners the opportunity to explore and engage with STEM every single Friday! They provide a hands-on, fun learning environment where students can explore the world of STEM through experiments, engineering, coding, and more. SCOH offers a variety of activities that are designed to help teach our students the basic principles of STEM, such as problem solving, logical thinking, and creative exploration. What a great way to help them develop a lifelong passion for science, technology, engineering, and math! We are so proud of our staff and students for helping us live up to our "PLTW Distinguished District" Recognition!

JM Second Graders Support Their Classmate and American Heart Month!
On Wednesday, students in Miss Buckley's class at Joan Martin Elementary wore red to support Bryce Jackson, their very own heart warrior! He had ASD, which was a hole in his heart. The doctors repaired his heart at 3 and he now gets to live a happy and healthy life! They wore red to support him and others who have a heart disease. Miss Buckley said, "He is OUR inspiration and motivation to raise all the money we can for our latest fundraiser, supporting the American Heart Association!" Love it! #BrickiesSupportingBrickies
Miss Walton's 8th Grade Math Classes Bring a Math Carnival to HMS!
Miss Walton shared, "The students had to create carnival games in order to test probability. Each group created their own, unique game. After their game was created, they ran the probability of different events. For example, making a ball in the red cup, then the yellow cup, then the red cup again. Students are shown in the pictures playing their games of chance. During the games, students recorded the actual outcomes of wins and losses. Students will present all their findings to the class as a whole in the coming days. The findings will not only allow them to understanding outcomes and probability further, but they will also detail whether the games they created we actually fair." How awesome! Way to be excellent on purpose, Brickies!

iReady Assessments for Grades K-8!
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction. i-Ready replaces the Star Renaissance Assessments that they students took last school year.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on student responses. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning! I look forward to sharing i-Ready information with you throughout the year. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
