A Note from Mrs. V.
Hello Forest Families!
I hope everyone went home and enjoyed the first "real" snowfall of the season. There was a lot of conversation about playing in the snow as students left the building today. I'm sure there a few small forts and snow people in yards across the neighborhoods!
With the turn of the weather, it is important that students comes with warm coats, snow pants, boots, gloves/mittens and hats. We go outside for recess unless the wind chill and temperature combination is too cold. Please also check that your child(ren) have dry shoes to put on so that the wet boots can remain outside by the lockers. This helps keep our classrooms from becoming wet and slippery.
Next week we only have school on Monday and Tuesday, and then we're off for Thanksgiving vacation the rest of the week. For those families who are traveling, be safe. We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday, November 28th.
Have a fantastic FOREST weekend!
Robin
Parent Homework✏️
As a follow up to recent district communication, it’s important that families remember to review the FPS Technology Agreement. The will be available beginning Monday, November 28 through Friday, December 23. It can be found in the Information Update section of MiStar for your review. Between the above dates, please login to the Parent Portal through MiStar and review this document. All Farmington parents/guardians will need to read, acknowledge receipt of the FPS Technology Agreement, and initial where appropriate.
In order to ensure equitable access to technology for each and every FPS student, students in grades 3-12 began carrying Chromebooks to and from school this past fall. As we continue to grow into Techquity, our 1:1 Technology Model, and as District-issued Chromebooks become more of a student responsibility, it’s essential that students and families are aware of District expectations.

SEL Corner
Within the elementary sector, one of the SEL developmental tasks is to obtain emotional regulation skills. With this in mind, Forest has implemented Calming Corners within each classroom. The designated areas allow students to physically and mentally take a break when they are overwhelmed by emotions, then when refocused return to learning. Within each Calming Corner are reflection sheets (used to guide the students on the process), and tools (such as fidgets, stretching movements, breathing exercises etc) to utilize within the space. Students are able to either self select themselves or a teacher could encourage a student to take a needed break. Utilizing the space is seen as a positive and beneficial opportunity, not one that is punitive in any manner. It is the intent that students learn to regulate their emotions and become aware of strategies available to them to realign themselves.
