Tyler's Tech Tips

Time Test App, PBS You Choose, Quizlet Live, and ESGI
Welcome Back
I am so excited to get back into the swing of things and begin visiting your classrooms again. Similar to last year, I try to make it out to each district once every 2-3 weeks on scheduled days. I usually email a sign-up sheet for the day I am visiting a few days ahead of time. If you have any instructional technology questions, want me to teach/co-teach a lesson with you, or any other tech-based need, put your name in at a specific time on the sign-up sheet. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to email me at tylerl@huronisd.org or call my office phone at 989-269-3494. I also want to let you know that I can come out to your school/classroom on a time that works best for you. If one of my scheduled days does not work or you need help quickly, let me know and I will do my best to assist in a timely manner.
Time Test App Many elementary teachers have been talking about this app recently because it is a great one to have in your arsenal. Actually, there are two apps available. There is a free addition app and then there is one that has the other three operations for 99 cents. Well worth it. This app lets you add different students, set up time tests for individual students including the operation, range of problems, number of problems, a timer, and instant feedback. After the student takes the test, they are able to email or print their results, or a record of their results will be stored in the app. Mental math facts are a very important skill to have mastered, and this app lets you differentiate to each student with minimal setup. | PBS Kids "You Choose" The Presidential Election is a little over a month away and this may be a topic that you want to cover in your classroom. PBS Kids released a kid-friendly site that is dedicated to informing students about the candidates and learning more about being President. This site has videos about voting, trading cards about Presidents and their First Lady, as well as campaign posters. The trading cards and campaign posters can be downloaded and printed off for your students. Quizlet Live takes a set of flashcards and turns it into a team competition. There are many formative assessment options out there that have team building exercises, but this one is very unique and requires your students to talk and work together. To launch Quizlet Live, choose any of your flashcard sets, select "Live" and it will walk you through from there. The game will randomly assign teams and teams may or may not sit by each other. It is best if they do rearrange to sit by each other to practice communication. *In order to play Live, you must have 6 students, each with their own device. You may have many more than that, but 6 is the least amount needed to play. |
