Middleton, WI was selected as the grand prize winner of Mrs. P's 6th annual Be-a-Famous Writer Contest! This class selected one story voted on by the class to represent this 4th grade. The theme of this years contest was time travel and classrooms were invited to write no less than 250 words and not to exceed 1,000 words on the topic. Entries could be fiction or non-fiction and any classroom from Kindergarten through 4th grade in the U.S. could enter one story per classroom.

About the Story and How it was Selected
The Magic Baseball Poster is a story about two boys who use a baseball poster to go back in time to meet Jackie Robinson the day before he breaks the color barrier in major league baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Illustrator Robin Robinson has shared the first illustration for the story.
The Grand Prize winner was chosen by a panel of celebrity judges that included: poet Robert L. Forbes, actress Marion Ross, & 5th grade teacher from N. Y. Jamie Palmer, and Mrs. P. (T.V. actress Kathy Kinney).

The grand prize winning classroom will be filled with actual books, audio book and digital books thanks to the sponsors of the contest. Skype Classroom will Connect Mrs. P & Winning Class on March 4th
The story will premiere on Mrs. P’s YouTube Channel on March 4 so everyone can enjoy it. It will be celebrated during Read Across America and World Read Aloud Day and Mrs. P will read the story to the winning class via Skype. It will be added to Mrs. P's Young Author’s Playlist that has all of the past contest winning stories.

Now in it's sixth year, the annual Be-a-Famous Writer is an opportunity for K-4 classrooms to spark their imaginations. The contest is for classrooms only and is FREE to enter. One story per classroom is permitted and it can be a collaborative story, or teachers can have the class vote on which child's story to enter, but either way it's the whole classroom that wins. Every year a new theme is selected and entries are received between September 15 and November 15. A team of celebrity judges selects the winning entries.
