Seniors Accepted on the Spot at Aurora Central’s College Application Day!
There is an old saying that the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Aurora Central High School seniors recently began their journey to life after graduation by participating in application day.
The school’s College and Career Center hosted the event with support from the Aurora Public Schools College and Career Success department. Seniors gathered in the library to meet one-on-one with admissions representatives from colleges across the state. In those meetings, students completed applications, submitted transcripts, updated their Naviance accounts and, in some instances, received an on the spot acceptance!
This is a significant step toward helping Aurora Central students and APS shift to a college- and career-focused culture. Giving students an opportunity to apply to multiple colleges without having to leave the building and providing needed support with immediate access to transcripts, application fee waivers and direct assistance from college personnel helped students realize their dreams of going to college.
The event’s data results prove students are truly thinking about their futures! There were 140 individual students (17% of the senior class) who applied to at least one college. ACHS students saved $11,650 in application fees and 24 seniors received immediate acceptances. In total, 261 college applications were completed during the four-hour event.
What a great way to celebrate College & Career Success Month.
Aurora Central’s class of 2018 will hold a special place in the school’s history for starting the trend of applying to colleges early in the school year. We hope this eagerness continues to gain momentum with future graduating classes. This is a big step forward for ACHS students as they earn credentials in efforts to shape successful futures!
