Read Across America Day at Vernfield

It will be Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Saturday, March 2nd. And what better way to celebrate the joy of reading then to celebrate Dr. Seuss! The kindergarten pod will be decorated with Dr. Seuss books and characters for students of all grades to read with a buddy on Friday, March 1st. Dr. Seuss book quotes will be read during morning announcements throughout the week for children to guess which book the quotes are from. Students are invited to style their hair in a wacky Seuss- style to coincide with Student council’s “Wacky Hair Day” on Friday too.

So remember everyone…..

“You’re never to old

Too wacky, too wild,

To pick up a book

And read with a child.”

Dr. Seuss

Philadelphia Union Game

This spring, Vernfield families can have a fun night out at a Philadelphia Union soccer game!

We are offering 2 dates to choose from:

  • May 4th at 7:30 pm. On this date, there is an additional option of sleeping over in a tent on the field and training with the training staff in the morning for only an extra $15 above the ticket cost.
  • May 18th at 7:30 pm.

Tickets may be purchased at https://groupmatics.events/group/VernfieldElementary19, and a small portion of the ticket sales will benefit the Home & School.

This was scheduled as an option to go and enjoy a game of soccer with some other Vernfield families. If you have any questions contact Lisa Mallon at lisa@mallonhome.com. Thank you!

Prime Time Reading - Thank You!

Prime Time was a huge success!

We had a record 80 kids attending. The theme was "Travel Through Time with Reading." Our dedicated teachers did a fractured Fairy Tale of Rapunzel, a story around Stone Soup and our usual gym activity! Our volunteers did a great job doing activities around the theme. A huge thanks to all the volunteers who made it a great night.

Special thanks to Katie Ross for organizing this special event!

This was Katie's final year to Chair the Prime Time Reading. Anyone wishing to help organize next year's event, please contact Lisa Hovind at lisa.vfhsa@gmail.com.
