Parents the fifth grade planing committee would like us to remind you that if you have not yet sent in your volunteer form and money please do so. The committee is responsible for numerous fun activities for just the fifth grade students. The children have come up with a slogan and would love to all have matching t shirts to wear.
New this year fifth grade will be writing opinion pieces. This is a new addition with part of the common core. We all can not wait to hear what the students views are on topics that interest them.
This unit in science is very exciting it that allows the children to explore chemical properties. The children will be gaining an understanding of mass, volume as well as beginning chemistry. We will conclude the unit with gaining an understanding of the chemical makeup of the Chesapeake. We will look at the salinity of the bay and understand the brackish environment of the estuary. There are several interesting labs that the children will learn from.
In Social Studies students will be learning about the events that lead up to the Revolutionary War. From the French and Indian War to the Acts and the Boston Tea Party. Times are changing in colonial America and the excitement is rising in the classroom as we learn and enter the Road to Revolution.
