Middle School COVID Testing - Monday!

Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) are partnering to provide free COVID-19 saliva tests for students in grades 6-12.

Testing is optional, but encouraged for all secondary students, and will be offered every two weeks.

Students in grades 6-12 can pick up a test kit from school on Mondays and return them to school on Tuesdays. The test kits will include instructions for conducting the test at home as well as instructions on where students should pick up and drop off the saliva test kits at school.

Students will be able to pick up a kit on Monday as they leave school. There is no written or verbal permission needed. Instructions about how to take a saliva test will be included with the test kit. Do not send students to school if they are sick.

Below are resources to find alternative testing options:

COVID Testing for Students

MDH announced a recommendation for all school-age youth returning to school, youth sports, or extracurricular activities, and their families, to get tested every two weeks through the end of the school year. While it is not a requirement, regular testing complements other safety measures already in place, such as masking and social distancing.

Schools and youth organizations can send messages and resources available on COVID-19 Testing for Kids and Families to families to encourage testing. Getting tested every two weeks from now until the end of the school year can help keep schools open and ensure we are limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Testing locations can be found here.

Free Meal Box Delivery Starting June 21

Free meal box delivery is available for all Saint Paul children starting June 21. Each child in the household, including non-school aged children and those with a disability currently enrolled in a school program, can receive one meal box per week. Only one registration per household is necessary. Click here to register.

Alternatively, free meal boxes will be available at several pickup locations. No registration is required and children do not need to be present to pick up meals. Find the list of pickup locations at spps.org/summermeals.

Office Updates & Procedures: Drop-off time, attendance reporting, early dismissal, changes in dismissal.

Morning Drop-off Time

We want to ensure each child is safe when arriving for school. Staff supervision begins at 9:15am. The earliest time to drop off your child for school is 9:15am. Please do not drop off your child any earlier.

Parent Drop-Off takes place along Concordia Ave. We ask that you pull as far forward as possible to drop off and remain in your car while your child exits out of the passenger side of the car. If you need additional time to drop off or assist your child please pull along Mackubin Ave. by the Green Capitol Hill doors to do so.

Attendance:

Please make sure to always report your child's absence. You can do this in two ways:

Please include your child's name, grade, the reason for their absence, your relationship to the child, and a return phone number that you can be reached at if we should have questions.

Health Related Absences: If your child is ill, please expect a follow up call from our nurse or nurse designee during these unique times. Please see current health considerations here.

Calling Your Child

When calling the school to speak to your child, the office staff will deliver your message to have your child call you back. Teachers are teaching during the day and we are trying our best to lessen the interruptions during instructional time. Thanks for understanding.
