Teachers College at El Verano School
This is a great honor and benefit for our teachers. The teaching staff is committed to being EXCELLENT reading teachers. We get better by learning new strategies and receiving the support we need from professional development experts.
We have spent 7 days over the course of this school year learning what our students and teachers need to be the best they can be in reading and writing. Teachers are working in grade level groups planning, watching demo reasons and trying what they learn. Below are some pictures from the last few days.

Republic of Thrift - THANK YOU!!!!
We are pleased to enclose our donation in the amount of $500, representing our second of three payments for the 2017/18 school year. With this latest deposit, coin jar funds, sponsorships, etc. we’ve donated over $180,000 since we opened in 2012. Not too shabby for a couple of moms with no thrift store experience!
This fall was challenging for businesses in Sonoma and all of us personally with the fires. We were closed for a few weeks and had heavy smoke damage. Even though co-Founder (and my sister) Michelle was evacuated at 1am on that first day, we were able to immediately jump to action. We donated piles and piles of clothes, linens, games, toys, stuffed animals the first few days mostly to the evacuated Sonoma Developmental patients. This was instrumental in their caregiving as they were sleeping on the floor and packing blankets when we arrived. They were truly lost souls and we were so happy to be able to help. Once more traditional resources became available to them, and all of our Valley, we stepped back to handle our own personal lives and evacuations. We are thankful to report that the store recovered after a two week shutdown, and Michelle was able to return to her home in Glen Ellen on Warm Springs.
Donation intake/volume has been massive. We struggle to keep up and our back storage room fills to capacity most weekends. We often close scheduled donations early and without advance notice – check Facebook for udpates. We are doing our best and I know that this can be frustrating for our donors. All three thrift stores in Sonoma are working together to strategize and to keep up with demand. Small towns and small stores such as ours aren’t prepared for the huge quantities of donated items, but we are making it work. We expect things to slow down when the rains start.
As always, we are trying to grow our business and profits even more, as we look for new ways to further our reach and draw in new customers. We like to make sure we are known by your school families. Any shout out in newsletters, yearbooks etc. is greatly appreciated. The more the community knows about what we are doing, the more we are able to help you. Fulfilling our commitment to you and the schools is always forefront in our minds.
As always, please remind your school staff & teachers that we offer 30% discount on anything purchased for classroom/school use.
Best wishes for remainder of the 2017/18 school year. We process donations to you three times per school year, so expect to hear from us again in May!
