Pinehill School News
16 June 2021 - Week 7, Term 2
Message from our Principal
Kia ora tatou,
Cluster Cross Country
Congratulations to all the runners who represented Pinehill School at the Super Cluster Cross Country last Friday. Mr van Beusekom and Mr Mathers attended this event with our runners and came back full of praise. Praise for the effort our runners put in and praise for the wonderful ambassadors our runners were for Pinehill School. Special mention to Reed Anderson who placed 1st in the Year 6 girls event. Also a special mention to Sean Lee who was singled out by one of the marshals, who made mention that out of the 450 students that attended the cross country event, Sean was the most respectful and polite student. We are very proud of all our runners and their display of the Pinehill Way outside the school grounds.
Uniform polar fleeces and sweatshirts
With the cooler temperatures, students are wearing polar fleeces and sweatshirts to school. Our classrooms are heated and students are delayering during the day. Please check that your child’s polar fleece or sweatshirt is clearly named. We have a lost property mountain forming and are finding many items of clothing with no name, or name of a previous student, or an unreadable name so we are unable to return the clothing to student.
Parent Catch Up with Principal - Tuesday 22nd June (9am-10:30am)
You are invited to come along to a meeting in the staffroom to connect, catch up and chat. Topics discussed at this catch-up include The Pinehill Way, Learning Language, ESOL requirements, Understanding your child's school report as well as our process for any concerns you may have. This is a great opportunity to meet the Principal and ESOL staff (available to support with translation) in an informal meeting to answer questions and get to know each other. Morning tea will be provided.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini
Success is not the work of one but the work of many.
Ngā mihi nui,
Carla Veldman, Principal
New Students
Pinehill School would like to welcome the following new students: Marcus Lu, Lily Staples
Matariki
Matariki is coming up from 19th June to 11th July. Matariki is the Maori New Year. It is an important time to celebrate the earth and show respect for the land. It is about coming together, sharing stories, acknowledging the past and those who have passed away, planning for the future, and feasting on the crops they have harvested.
This year we are trying out something new to celebrate Matariki. We are going to have a Matariki morning tea on Friday 9th July (last day of Term 2) from 10am - 11am. We are going to have the morning tea under our Taumaru - shade shelter over the bottom court on the field.
We would love to invite you all to join us! Everybody will need to bring a plate of breakfast/morning tea food. This might be something like croissants, yoghurt, fruit etc and everybody will be welcome to try different foods and have some morning tea.

Paid Union Meeting - 22nd-24th June
The first round of paid union meetings are coming up. Teachers are entitled to attend two paid union meetings a year. The school will not be closing on these dates. Some classes may have a different teacher for one afternoon, however we are working hard to ensure minimal disruption.
