Booking Time in the Library and Room 228
- Check the online calendar to make sure that time that you want is available (this calendar will be shared with all staff so be sure to accept the invitation to look at it).
- Phone or email or visit one of the teacher librarians/library technician to discuss the date and period you want to book. We will put it in the booking binder and on the online calendar!
- Email or visit with a copy of your assignment before the date of your visit so we can find that resources that your students will need to do their best work.
That's it! You have the choice of booking the main space or the seminar room. We have 32 brand new CPUs in the main space and 42 Chromebooks for use in the seminar room. Don't forget that the iPad carts are also available to be booked online in the room booking system if you want to take the technology to your classroom!
We have already started taking bookings so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment and get the time and the space that you want. If you have booked a library period and you have to be away that day, no problem! Just let us know in advance and be sure we have your assignment so we can help your students stay on track.
Booking time in Room 228 is just as easy! Chrissy will be sending out a link to a Google Calendar. It will work the same way as the library booking calendar. You will be able to see what is available and then call or email us to book. Please remember that your students should have had a session in the library before booking Room 228 to be sure that they know how to use the equipment properly. A teacher MUST be present in the room with them at all times when students are using Room 228.
New Initiatives and Upcoming Events
- Soaring to success with Sora - OverDrive has created a new app for students called Sora. Students can still read ebooks or listen to audiobooks but this new app is more student friendly and easier for them to use. It also awards them badges when they accomplish their reading goals. Check out the new Sora app at https://meet.soraapp.com/ or speak to us in the library about how to use it. It's awesome!
- Room 228 is up and operational - Thanks to your feedback we have been able to put together an alternative classroom that your students will be able to use to create film and podcast assignments and to work collaboratively on other tech based projects. You will also have the added benefit of Christina Niro being available to help you and/or your students when using the room if you need additional support. We will continue to run student workshops in the library so feel free to book one today!
- Culture Days at the Brampton Library - On Friday, September 28, students from LASS will be performing at the Springdale Branch of the Brampton Library for this year's Culture Days celebration from 10 am until 12 pm. Classes are welcome to attend and support our students!
- Indigenous Education/We Rise Together - We will be hosting a Skype presentation with best selling author Jason Reynolds on Friday, October 19th! Please check out the link below to learn more about Jason and let us know if you want to attend the presentation.
- Hot Docs - We will be hosting free in-school screenings of some of the latest documentaries, as well as planning a trip to the Hot Docs festival in the spring!
- #thelibrarylife - a podcast - This year we are starting a new podcast from your library learning commons called The Library Life. It will provide information about what's new and exciting in the library, read alouds, interviews and more. Details about the podcast will be available shortly.
Please let us know if you are interested in any of these initiatives!
