Westview Staff Spotlight
Bri Wells
1. What classes do you teach and/or programs and activities do you work with?
I work in the main office; I love being one of the first people someone sees when they walk into Westview!
2. How long have you been at WHS?
This is my first year at Westview and I appreciate the staff for being so welcoming!
3. What do you enjoy most about the Westview community?
I really enjoy the kids. Since I am not a teacher and don't get to spend my days with them it is really a treat when I get to help a student or learn about their story. There are a few students who stop by my desk weekly just to say hi, and it makes my day every time.
4. If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it - metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions - what would it say and why? It could be a few words or a paragraph. It could be someone else's quote or any quotes you think of often or live your life by. Why would you put it on a billboard today?
There are 3 things you should do every day: Laugh, Dance, and Sing.
I was about 9 when a friend's mom told me this. I remember telling her I never do all those things in one day, and her exact words were "if you want to live a happy life, you should." With the craziness of the past couple years, it's nice to have something so simple to make me smile every day. And what I've learned through all of this is that smiles are contagious, and if I can make just one person smile each day, it's a good day.
5.What is something about you that many people at Westview might not know? (Hobbies, talents, interests, fun facts, etc...)
I have an urban homestead full of fruit, vegetables, herbs, and chickens. I didn't grow up on a farm and everything is new to me this year. My plants and tiny dinosaurs taught me a lot more than I expected. I have learned so much about how small farms can be good for the environment, where my food comes from, and how you don't have to grow up on a farm to grow something beautiful.

Westview Colors for Coats Club
Students have started a Colors for Coats club at Westview. Colors for Coats is an organization that aims to spread awareness about important issues in the public health field through creative means - from health care disparities to environmental crises to public policies, we create opportunities for students to collaborate and implement projects that will have a direct impact on communities. Every two months we will focus on a different public health-related topic by bringing different professionals to our platform and holding fundraisers and projects to help communities on a global scale. We emphasize leadership, creativity, and service by fostering a community of students who can take their own initiatives and bring their own ideas to help make a difference.

Reminders
Indoor Mask (Reminder)
We have had some extended breaks lately and want to make sure all of our students remember masks are required at all times unless you are eating in the cafeteria or designated lunch space. It is important we all do our part to keep everyone safe. Wearing a mask includes covering your nose as well. We appreciate our students following this and our parents and guardians reminding them from home. Thank you!
Outdoor Masks (update)
From BSD:
Effective December 3, 2021, students and staff will no longer be required to wear a mask outdoors. This applies to any outdoor activity on district/school property to include drop off/pick up, waiting to load school buses, recess, physical education, and any outdoor classroom activity. Students and staff are still required to wear a mask when on a school bus.Cat Cave Volunteers Needed

Beaverton School District Antiracist Vision Statement
The BSD School Board unanimously voted to adopt an Antiracist Vision Statement. Informed by the work of the Beaverton Multicultural Educator Community (BMEC) and the 40-member Equitable Policies Task Force made up of students, family, community members and staff, the vision statement will guide our implementation of our Every Student Belongs Policy (ACB) and help ensure that our schools are safe and welcoming learning spaces for all.
Antiracist Vision Statement
Every student and employee has the right to learn and work in a safe and inclusive school environment that honors their race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability and national origin.
Beaverton School District owns that our student outcomes currently point to our part in perpetuating institutional racism, and we commit to actions that address the current culture that is leading to these outcomes. Schools are critical in providing safe and creative opportunities for people to learn about different cultural and racial identities, have conversations about pressing issues and correct injustice wherever it exists. We commit to eliminating the structures, policies and practices that perpetuate inequities in our schools and in our community.
Beaverton School District will authentically engage each student, family and staff member to build connection, uplift understanding and truly value the diversity of our school communities. We will work to dismantle policies and systems that perpetuate institutional racism and barriers to education and other school-related activities. Students and families of color will see themselves represented in curriculum, materials, instruction, classrooms and all school activities in our district. Our district will honor, respect, represent, engage with and be accessible to students and adults from all communities.
Eliminating racism and all forms of bias is fundamental to our work — not just a part of our work. We commit to removing racism, white supremacy, hate speech and all forms of bigotry from our schools and communities.
Our district will:
- Seek and incorporate student, family, educator and administrator input in decision-making processes.
- Provide ongoing anti-bias and antiracist education to every staff member.
- Enforce Every Student Belongs procedures to prevent, interrupt and stop racist and biased incidents among students and between staff and students or community members.
- Create an inclusive learning community that honors, respects, represents, engages and is accessible to learners from all communities.
- Create permanent district funding and resources to promote equitable policies, structures and practices for BIPOC students and other marginalized groups.
- Implement policies, procedures and professional development to confront and eliminate conscious and unconscious racism and review these policies and procedures regularly to ensure we are meeting our commitments.
