We ARE Vestaburg
Community Update - May 2022
From the Superintendent
High School Graduation is a very special time in a person’s life. It is a time of celebration, a time of reflection, a time of accomplishment, a time of sadness and apprehension, and it is a time of family and friends. However, there are many things that graduating from high school is not such as, a time of entitlement, it is not an ending but a beginning, it should not be a time of reckless decision making, and it absolutely should not be a time of mourning. Every year we hear stories of young men and women that make bad choices and end up suffering tragedies including life-altering injuries and even death.
In my educational career, I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with such tragedies and they were some of the hardest times in my career and life. As an educator, you get to know your students and they become so much more and when tragedy strikes it is crushing to not only see the pain of the families, but you feel for all of the students that are left dealing with the aftermath. While we all experience tragedy in our lives and it is part of growing up, it should not be a part of the graduation season.
Thus, I am asking that every student, parent, and community member make a pledge to look out for all of our children and help our young people make good decisions this graduation season. It is our responsibility as a community to embrace our children and make this a great time of celebration. It is my sincerest hope that everyone will join me in making this a time of great memories and happiness and not a time of sadness and regrets by helping to protect our children. Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 2022!
As always, it is a great time to be a Wolverine and We ARE Vestaburg!
Respectfully,

Shout-Outs:
Each Month the Vestaburg Board of Education recognizes individuals that go above and beyond for the students and/or the district. Each individual named has been recognized by one or more of their peers. Thank you to everyone recognized for your dedication to our students and school district!
Larry Koutz and Adam Carver: Larry and Adam build bonds with high school students who then create snack bags for PreK-6th grade students. They have went above and beyond to make sure any students who have this need is getting this food boost for the weekend. Thank you!
Hannah Hubbell: Hannah is an attentive one to one Paraprofessional. She is patient and kind but has high expectations for her student. In addition to doing that job well, she provides tremendous background support, helping me to keep things running smoothly, keeping track of ever changing schedules, and assisting with other students as needed. Her giving personality and willingness to work hard and solve problems make my days easier and I appreciate her! - Tammy Dickman
- Ken Carll and Kyle Clayton: Ken and Kyle are very helpful when needed, even for the smallest things. They are very appreciated and are always pleasant to interact with. A huge thank you to both of them for keeping things up and running.
- Ken Tiesworth: Ken goes out of his way to make sure that things run smoothly with technology. He is usually able to help within just a few minutes of being contacted. He is an amazing asset to our school!
- Dr. Jennifer Warner: Planning, organization, and implementation of the Senior Prom event. This task takes enormous amounts of time to get this event right the first time. Dr. Warner did that and all who attended had a great time. Special thanks to Dr. Warner for making the Senior Prom a memorable event for the Class of 2022!!
- Ken Carll and Kyle Clayton: As we were setting up for the MSAC middle school track meet a few weeks ago, the timing company could not get the power outlet to work on the football field. Luckily, Ken and Kyle were still around to troubleshoot. After trying a number of different fixes, they replaced the whole outlet on the spot in a matter of minutes and we were able to start the meet on time. In addition to their constant hard work to keep our facilities in good shape, they are frequently picking up bus routes when needed. All of this work is being done while they are short staffed. We are lucky to have both of them!
Proud To Be A Wolverine
After almost 10 years of leading our Girls Basketball Program, Matt Koutz, has decided to step down as the Varsity Girls Basketball Coach. On behalf of the district, we would like to thank him for his dedication and commitment to the program. Coach Koutz brought stability and laid a solid foundation for our program and his efforts are greatly appreciated.
