Wausau School District Referendum Question on the April 5th ballot
The purpose of the April 5th Referendum is to enhance the educational experiences for every Wausau School District student, while at the same time, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all. Our public schools are the heart of this community and setting our students up for success will lead to stro nger schools, which in turn will lead to an even stronger community. So let’s go forward together; making a difference.
Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week
Our partners at Wisconsin Emergency Management would like to announce Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin will take place April 4-8 this year. This annual campaign encourages everyone in Wisconsin to prepare for the tornadoes and severe storms in the state
that may develop during the spring and summer months. This is also a good opportunity for families to review their severe weather safety procedures by participating in statewide tornado drills at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. on April 7. Here at Riverview, we will participate in the 1:45 pm drill beginning with a mock tornado watch at 1:30. Students will practice taking shelter in our designated safe spaces.
Upcoming Dates
April 11th - Elementary Concert @ Wausau East - Beginning at 5:30 pm
April 12th - 14th - 4th grade to the Little Red Schoolhouse
April 15 - No School
April 21 - Kindergarten in a Glove
April 22 - Kindergarten to the School Forest
April 25 - 29 - Book Fair
Notes from the Art Room
This quarter students are using the season Spring as inspiration for artwork with the use of our art elements (Color, Space, Form, Value, Shape, Texture, Line). Spring brings new life, color comes back, and the world is lit again with daylight. The temperatures climb and ideas of summer fun begin to flood in. This quarter all students will be incorporating moments from our life and our environment into artwork of 2 dimensions (drawings and paintings), finishing up 3 dimensional art using clay, paper mache, and other found objects to create 3D art. The spring brings excited energy and keeping students focused on school becomes more challenging as they desire to be outside in the sunshine. During this time I build into our curriculum Neon art, optical illusion art, and textiles (sewing and weaving) to keep minds excited and hands busy creating fun art! We will be having fun, making messes, learning and growing in art and problem solving skills. Don’t forget to ask your students about their learnings in art and their other encore subjects! Watch for images of their work via their Seesaw Art class posts and in the halls at school.
K-1 students are creating 2D and 3D art using Color, Line, Shape, Pattern, Space, Texture and Form. Principles of Design such as Balance, Repetition, Contrast, Movement, and Proportion will come into the art work this quarter. Projects include icons of Insects, birds, shapes, abstract art, gum balls, monsters, self, animals and fish.
2-3 students are creating 2D and 3D art using Color, Line, Shape, Value, Space, Form and Texture. Students will also be learning about texture and form, and understanding how light effects color and shape/form at night. Principles of Design (which add more interest to their artwork) such as Emphasis, Contrast, Repetition, Proportion, and White Space will be used. Projects include icons of abstract art, animals, mugs, snowmen, trees, rocks, a dot, donuts, barns, and bugs.
4-5 students are creating 2D and 3D art using Color, Line, Shape, Value, Texture, Form, and Space. Students will also be learning about contemporary artists and how their ideas influence our work, historical time periods and how modern art is shaped by those concepts of progress in society, and how modern technology can aid in art making. Principles of Design (which add more interest to their artwork) will be used including Emphasis, Balance, Contrast, Repetition, Proportion, Scale, and Movement. Projects include icons of graffiti, cupcakes, Onomatopoeia, landscapes, vessels, food, modern objects, and self. Students will be exploring screen printing and learning about careers that use this medium. The screen printing unit was made possible via a grant I won through the Wausau Foundation and the Beyond Crayons Grant.
Vision and Hearing is coming to Riverview
If for any reason you would not like your child screened, please contact Jenny Glovinski in the health office at 715-261-0035 or email jglovins@wausauschools.org

COVID-19 Testing Sites
The Wausau School District is now offering free PCR COVID-19 testing to all students, staff, and even their immediate family members.
Testing is now available, on a limited basis in a mobile unit. Below you will find a schedule that shows where the unit will be and when.
Everyone who would like to receive that free test must fill out a consent form. The consent form for students is available below, it’s also available on our website.
It’s imperative that you know the District will not test students without parental consent. Instructions for registering your child to receive testing are below. Once parents and guardians fill out the consent form, they must return it to their child(ren)’s school.
All staff and immediate family members of students and staff who would like to receive that free testing will give consent at the mobile unit.
You should also know this is all being done at absolutely no cost to the Wausau School District. In fact, the Department of Health Services is paying for it all -- including the testing of students, staff, and their immediate family members, along with paying for the staff who will administer the tests.
