The 2022-'23 School Year Starts On the 22nd!

Dear Carman Families,

The first day of school is coming up quickly, but before we start up the new school year we have some fun activities this week:

Infinite Campus, which is the website Parkway utilizes for parents, students, and teachers, will be up and ready on Wednesday, Aug. 17th. Please be sure to check your student's information for accuracy, especially their "Emergency Contacts". Teacher assignments will be announced on Wednesday, August 17. You can check in Infinite Campus or wait for the welcome email to come out.

On Thursday, Aug. 18th, we will be hosting "Meet the Teacher" from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. We hope to see you stop by for a visit with your student's teacher, to drop off any supplies you have ready, and be sure to enjoy some Kona Ice afterward between 3:30 - 4:30! Our new MOSAICS teacher, Ms. Rodrigue, will be in attendance from 3:00 - 4:00 and she's excited to meet everyone! Mr. Steward our 1st and 2nd grade counselor will be in attendance from 3:00 - 4:00. We will also have a Welcome Back sign you can have your student take pictures with. This will allow any family who wants a memorable picture from the school year to be able to take the picture. The sign will be up all day on Thursday, August 18.

Finally, on Sunday, Aug. 21st from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., all of our Carman families are welcome to stop by the school and "Chalk the Walk" -- sidewalk chalk will be provided and we would love to see your Carman Trails Welcome to School artwork and school appropriate messages!

Additional dates and upcoming events can always be found at the end of the Paw Print issues. We can't wait to have our students back in the building on Monday, August 22nd!

With CT Pride,

Allison

Walking Your Child In On the First Day of School???

We are excited to have the opportunity for families to walk their students in on the first day of school! In order to help with the process, we ask that each adult that plans to enter the school on the first day of school bring their ID with them to Meet the Teacher on Thursday, August 18 to get their badge for the first day of school. Please DO NOT put the badge on until you return on the first day of school on Monday, August 22. You will need your ID on the first day of school along with the badge that was printed by the front office at Meet the Teacher. This process will allow us to save you time. All visitors will be asked to leave the classrooms at 9:05 am on the first day of school so we can begin our activities of the day. In order for you to have as much time as needed, getting your badge ahead of time will be the best option. We are asking that everyone have their ID with them each time they enter the school. We are sending this information in advance to help us provide a safe experience and to eliminate any confusion. Please note this process is different than other pre-registration processes we have used before. If you have any questions, please call the front office at 314-415-6100.

We anticipate a lot of cars on the first day. If you are not able to find a parking spot on the school lot, you are welcome to use the parking lot at First Free Church (corner of Weidman and Carman Rd) and then walk over to the school. Students are able to enter the building at 8:45 am each day. Please note the carpool line moves continually and if you are looking to walk your child in, you will need to park either at First Free Church or the Carman Trails' parking lot.

Front Office Closures

The staff has professional development sessions that will happen the week of August 15. The front office will be closed on Monday, August 15 from 8:00 - 12:00 and Tuesday, August 16 from 8:00 - 12:00. If you need assistance, please call 314-415-6104 or call in the afternoon on these days.

Student Meals for the 2022-2023 School year - Please Read

Carman Trails parents -

The Parkway School District released the following information this summer:

"Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, Parkway has provided free meals for all students through the funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which has been extended multiple times by Congress. That funding has expired, which means that free meals will no longer be available to all Parkway students in the 2022-23 school year. Families who submitted and were approved for free/reduced meals in the 21-22 School Year will carry over that status for the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 School Year. All families are required to reapply starting July 2022 when the income guidelines change in order to be eligible for free/reduced meals throughout the whole school year of 2022-2023.

Ala-Carte sales in Elementary are limited to second entrees or extra drinks. Students will need funds in their meal accounts in order to purchase drinks. Snack bars will be open in middle and high schools. Students must have funds in their accounts to purchase items at the snack bar."

Please click here if you would like to enroll in the Free & Reduced Meal program.

Student meal pricing for the 2022-2023 school year: Breakfast $2.35 - Lunch $3.25

Using this My School Bucks app is easy and convenient -- simply sign up online and you can add money to your child's account any time via debit or credit card, as well as monitor their balance.

If you prefer to add money to your student's account, you are welcome to send in a check or cash with your child and the office staff will get the funds to our Cafeteria Lead.

We are looking forward to seeing students back in the building on Monday, August 22nd - enjoy the rest of your summer break!

A Note from the Nurse

Medication Administration Guidelines at Parkway

Hello, Carman Trails parents! A few notes about medication at school:

  • Medication Authorization Forms must be completed by the parent for all medication to be administered.
  • Prescription medications must be in a prescription-labeled container. The label must state the child’s name, current date, medication name, and directions for administration. All labeled prescription medication also requires physician permission/authorization. Signed emergency action plans may be used as physician authorization.
  • All over-the-counter medications must be in their original containers.
  • Physician permission must accompany over-the-counter medications given for greater than 5 days.
  • Medication Authorization Forms and Action Plans are available from your school nurse or found on the Health Service's website.
