Congratulations Graduated Class of 2018!
Scituate High School’s Class of 2018 is more than just 101 students who received diplomas on Friday, June 8. They consider themselves a family.
Valedictorian Emily Pietrantozzi told fellow graduates, faculty members, families and friends who gathered at the Samuel Tourtellot Memorial Common that SHS has established a sense of community and family together.
“This town comes together during celebration and tragedy. We look out for each other,” she said.
Pietrantozzi said, “Here, I found my forever friends - people that I plan to keep in touch with for the rest of my life. My time in Scituate has made this goodbye bittersweet, but I always know that I will have a home here. I know that wherever I go, and wherever I end up, I will be searching for the sense of community that we have established together here in Scituate.”
Justin Bessette, salutatorian, had similar remarks.
“The friendships that I’ve made throughout my time spent in Scituate are probably my favorite thing about living here - I know that some of these friends will last me a lifetime,” he said.
As a testament to that, members of the SHS Class of 1958 attended the graduation, and celebrated their 60th class reunion this year.
Benjamin Russo, who served as the president of the Class of 2018, told the crowd that gathered at graduation that during his time at SHS, “You felt a sense of belonging.”
“Every bit of hard work you have ever done has brought you to this point. You made it, we made it. Be proud, and good luck, Class of 2018,” he said.
Principal Michael Hassell, quoting Mr. Rogers, told the graduates, “in all that you do in all of your life, I wish you the strength and the grace to make those choices which will allow you and your neighbor to become the best of whoever you are.”
