What's New
Writing
Next week is Dead Week. We will have our last test on Monday, October 23 over all of the grammar we have learned so far: proper nouns vs common nouns, pronouns, articles, adjectives, prepositions, and verbs. After deconstructing and analyzing many essay examples, we will brainstorm together ideas for our first Expository Essay of the year. The kids will have four days to complete the essay which we will work on in class. We will be starting our Greek and Latin roots again as well. Keep an eye for for the new green sheets.

Reading
The Greasers and Socs are still with us in our Reading classes. We are continuing to be involved in their conflicts, friendships, personalities, and life challenges. As we read THE OUTSIDERS, we will continue to learn more about ourselves, the battle between the rich and poor, the power of friendship, what it means to be a hero, and the journey from youth to adulthood. Get a copy of THE OUTSIDERS and read it with your student! You'll enjoy the journey!
The only homework our students have in Reading class is to READ for 20-30 minutes per night. Please encourage your student to read. Help them set aside the time to enrich their minds, vocabularies, and lives!
If your student is in one of Mrs. Webb's classes, you can join that class's Remind group.

There is a nine weeks test on Monday, October 23rd. All Texas History students received a review guide on the 16th. They will need to spend time studying and be prepared for Monday's test. We will play review trashketball to help the students prepare for the test. Once testing is over, we will continue analyzing the causes of the Texas Revolution.

Science
Students are able to correct any daily work or quiz by doing constructed response on the questions they missed. They can make up to a 100 on the corrected papers. They can also do constructed response for missed test questions and then do a re-test (except 9 weeks tests). We don't have many students taking advantage of these opportunities.
Students are welcome to attend tutorials, especially those students who are struggling. Mrs. McKoy has tutorials in the mornings Monday through Thursday, Mrs. Gabel has them Tuesday through Thursday after school, and Coach Whetzel has them Monday through Wednesday after school.
