Military Veterans For Christ Veterans' Day Celebration

SMMS showed up strong for the celebration of our veterans at Jubilee Hall this past Sunday. Many thanks to Ms. Elizabeth Cardenas for spearheading the effort and to Student Council Moderator Mr. Casey for marshaling the (wo)manpower. Service is a core component of our mission, and we Mavericks witnessed it on Sunday!

Speak Up Club Speaks Up

The Speak Up Club was introduced after Mass this past Wednesday. Their role will be to build up others, speak up for others, and enhance the Witnessing of DIGNITY in our school. Way to be agents of empowerment, Mavericks!

POPE FRANCIS KNOWS JUSTICE

Please read the story below. It truly conveys how Pope Francis does not just preach the need for all of us to look out for the poor and vulnerable; he walks the talk.

Pope Francis: Witness Trumps Words!

One of my mentor teachers used to tell me that children don't listen, they look. Well, Pope Francis concurs, recently saying that – in an age dominated by images and cellphones – the faithful must rely on example, rather than words, to transmit the faith to young ones.

A Modern Day Saint For Our Youth?

On the heels of All Saints Day, I enjoyed reading this story of a young man who is a modern day possible candidate for sainthood. I encourage you to share it with your children.

A Growth Mindset Book For Kids

Please check out the link below. Here's a brief synopsis of the book:

Lisa and Johnny are siblings who spend a summer at the pool. They have to wear floaties since they can’t swim. So they sign up for swim class together. Read along as Lisa and Johnny go on their journey through learning to swim.

They both encounter successes and setbacks along the way. Their different mindsets show how they handle these situations. The result is drastically different!

Maverick Volleyball Tournament: Spikes Under The Lights

We had a great time tonight at the gym for our 1st Annual Maverick Volleyball Tournament, which featured parents, students and staff vying for the trophy.

In the end, despite spending significant energy on concocting a complex bracket and having its spiritual leadership wing (Fr. Will and Br. Sean) depart suddenly and prematurely for "recreation," STAFF INFECTION emerged victorious. Mr. Guerra emerged from no less than 3 naps or possibly deep meditations on the bleachers to lead the young lads (Mr. Casey, AKA "Messi Kiraly," Mr. Stalder, and Mr. Daily) to victory.

Thanks to all who came out. As a consequence, all those who came earned a FREE DRESS day for this Monday.
