The best place to read!
February News
Although February is a short month the library has been feeling the love with plenty of events packed in this month.
We started the month by receiving a donation from Project Brave , a nonprofit organization. The books they donated are a great way to incorporate social and emotional learning concepts. Each book has been carefully curated by members of the Project Brave program and includes helpful questions for engaging children in meaningful conversations about empathy, courage, kindness, and other important relationship skills. These books will be housed in the CIS office. Eliza Orozco plans on using them for small group activities and will use the questions already provided for teaching social skills. The list below shows what titles were donated and you can check them out from Eliza.
These items are in the CIS office. You can check them out from Elisa Orozco.
Second grade showcased their Chatterkids projects in the library. What a great opportunity to share their knowledge with their peers about the national forest animals they researched in October. A group of second grade girls also became part of an American Girl book club. We met three times to discuss American Girl chapter books and created handkerchief dolls as one of the activities. These have been displayed in the library display case.
Fourth grade finished their poetry unit with a visit to the library to explore 7 different poetry stations. The students had fun and learned/reviewed at the same time.
First grade started a research unit on farm animals and the resources each animal provides. Ian Hundere helped gather information at the computer. After visiting three stations they had facts about three different farm animals, which they had chosen earlier by popular vote. Now they will work on completing their booklets with illustrations to compare the young to the adult.
