SMS GIVES BACK

This week, students will participate in events that support our annual SMS GIVES BACK event.

The event supports local families for the holidays with wish list items, food and home needs.

We appreciate all of your contributions thus far and are thankful to be part of such a generous community!

Events take place Thursday December 8th. We look forward to having our parent volunteers in to help wrap and celebrate our students and this event!

Active Threat Drill

Our staff and students conducted an active threat drill this past week. Students and staff simulated a scenario and barricaded and exited the building. The drill went well and we were able to get great feedback to support the safety of all at SMS. Thank you to SPD for their support during our drill.

MATH APTITUDE TEST

SMS teachers are in the process of recommending students to take the Iowa Algebra Aptitude test to determine the best middle school math placement for students and assess readiness for the rigors of an Honors math class. However, parents do have the option to request that their student take this test as well.

If your student is not currently in an honors or advanced 6th or 7th grade math class and you wish for your student to be considered for an accelerated math course, please fill in the form below. Students who are entered into this form will be given the opportunity to test to see if they are able to be considered for this path. The test will be administered mid-January. Please finalize your request by January 3, 2023. Thank you.

Here is the Google Form to fill out. Thank you.

Student Chromebooks and Cases

All students were assigned a chromebook, chromebook charging cord, and a chromebook case.

All students are to use their chromebook case when carrying their chromebook from home to school, and between classes at school.

Many students have broken chromebook screens because they are 'cramming' their chromebook into an overfull backpack and don't even know where their chromebook case is.

Chromebook cases are not to be used for anything but chromebooks and possibly chromebook cords.

Chromebook cases are not for carrying books, pencils, papers, planners, etc.

Many students don't charge their chromebook at home overnight.

Students who have problems remembering to charge their chromebook overnight should start charging it as soon as they get home, when school is still on their mind.

Students need to bring their charged chromebook in the chromebook case to school each day.

The school doesn't not provide a 'loaner' chromebook for students who forget their chromebook at home.

Students are not to put any stickers on their chromebooks.

The only 2 stickers should be their name sticker on the top left corner, and the inventory tag sticker on the bottom of the chromebook.

If either of these 2 stickers is starting to come off, please go to the Media Center to have the sticker replaced.

If your pet (dog, cat, etc.) chews your chromebook cord and it needs to be replaced, a charge will go on your student fees for the replacement cord.

Please keep your chromebook cord away from your pets.

These chromebooks are for Strongsville City Schools educational purposes only, both at home and at school.
