C & I Update

Commitment to Excellence 1/13/2017

Whew, that was a lot of rain and snow!

Many collaborative meetings were rescheduled this week due to the weather and road conditions. Your lead teacher will be communicating with you on rescheduled dates (Science VT, 1:1 computing, ILT, Social Studies VT, 5th/6th grade collaboration).

Thank you Mr. Gallaher, Welcome to QHS Mr. Ofenham!

Looking for an alternative to SSR? Quick tip from Instructional Coach Susan Frediani:

Looking for ways to prepare students to read independently, productively, accountably, and efficiently in all subjects? Try Doug Lemov’s instructional strategy AIR: Accountable Independent Reading (Reading Reconsidered 2016). This method encodes success in reading independently then slowly increases both rigor and stamina. The key components to AIR include:

· Limiting text and gradually increasing length

· Finding a focal point for independent reading

· Setting time limits

· Interactive reading tasks

· Teacher confirmation and scaffolding of comprehension

If you would like further information regarding AIR or to schedule a demonstration lesson or other coaching support, please contact Instructional Coach Susan Frediani.

Strengthening the Start

PUSD is focusing on a strong start to each class period or learning opportunity, honing in on these three areas:

Learning Environment: A sustained, successful start routine promoting positive behavior and a positive learning environment is evidenced for all students.

Instructional Time: A sustained, successful start routine optimizing efficient and effective student learning is evidenced for all students.

Student Engagement: All students actively participate and engage in the sustained, successful start expectations.
