The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet
By Scott Vandrunen and Luke Smith
Balthasar tells Romeo Juliet is dead.
We chose this event because it is a high point when Juliet and Friar Lawrence make a plan to escape Juliet's marriage to Paris by making a plan to take a special potion and it will appear she's dead and friar would send a letter to Romeo telling him the plan. Balthazar saw that Juliet was dead and told Romeo but Romeo didn't receive the letter explaining Juliet and the friars plan. This event is also dramatic irony because we knew the plan and Romeo didn't. This is a quote when Balthazar is telling Romeo Juliet is dead "'Her body sleeps in Capel's monument and her immortal part with angels lives'"(5.1. 18-19).
Romeo finds Juliet in the tomb.
We choose The happening of Romeo finding Juliet dead as an important part of Act V because, Romeo figures that Juliet is dead, considering Balthazar told Romeo what had happened to her. It was mostly a surprise to Romeo when he thought that Juliet was dead. Romeo had no idea she had taken a potion earlier to knock her out for 42 hours. Romeo had found Paris at the tomb where Juliet was lying there, Romeo and Paris fought, and eventually Paris was killed by Romeo who then killed himself. This quote is when Romeo go's to Juliet's tomb "'I must indeed that's why I came here. My dear boy don't provoke a desperate man'"(5.3. 58-59).
Capulet's and Montague's end their feud.
This event in act V is obviously significant because both of the main characters die. after Romeo, Juliet, Paris, An lord Montague's wife are all dead the friar tells everybody about there secret marriage and the reason they died was because of there lasting feud with each other. In the end the Montague's and Capulet's realize that there rivalry isn't worth the pain and hassle and they each vow to build a statue of each others kids in gold. This quote is right after lord Capulet and Montague say they will put the statues up next to each other, lord Capulet says"'As rich shall Romeo's lady's lie- Poor sacrifices of our enemy!'"(5.3. 303-304).
