Does your family need assistance?

Westside Community Schools provides clothing and food assistance through the Family Resource Center to students and their families who may need extra support. Families can contact the school social worker, Kim Schenkelberg, by email or at 402-452-3147 to arrange a time to meet there. Additional resources can be located in the Social Work Newsletter.

Phone and Earbud Expectations

Please review the cell phone and earbud expectation with your student.

All cell phones must remain in a backpack or locker from 8:00-3:15. Earbuds are only allowed within the classroom and when given permission by the teacher. Students are not allowed to wear earbuds in the halls.

Thank you for your help with this expectation.

PBIS - Looking for Donations!

Hello Westside Middle School Parents!

In Westside Community Schools, we use a framework called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, or PBIS, to promote positive behaviors throughout our schools. At WMS, we have a "Warrior Buck Store", where students can trade in tickets for rewards. In efforts to "up the ante" and offer more than the usual candy and pop, we are excited to introduce raffle items! This is where you come in...

We are looking for donations of Westside gear, IPad pencil cases, water bottles, gift cards, or anything else that would suit a raffle for our middle school students. Cash or check donations are always awesome, too; we can purchase items we know students will love! Please drop any donations at the front office or you can

We will also be raffling the opportunities to win competitions with teachers or teams during pep rallies, and opportunities to win spirit days for the whole team! There's a lot of fun to be had at Westside Middle School celebrating amazing positive behaviors from amazing students!

Registration for Westside High School classes

The middle school counselors will then be meeting individually with their assigned students to go over their course requests for high school. This process will go through approximately mid to late February. The high school counselors will come to the middle school on Friday, February 25 to meet with 8th grade students to finalize student course requests.

We encourage you (parents/guardians) to please have your student login to the scheduler and go over their course requests with them. The scheduler is located at https://westsideweb.azurewebsites.net/account/login. You can see student course requests by clicking “Cart” on the top menu bar.

You can access the WHS Course Planning Guide here. Information about all of the courses offered at the high school is available in the course planning guide.High school counselors gave a brief overview of the high school on Monday, January 10. Topics discussed included high school terminology, an example of modular scheduling, and some information about clubs. You can access the PowerPoint here.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact your student's counselor!

National Assessment of Educational Progress

This test will be held February 24th not February 25th.

Westside Middle School will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on February 24, 2022. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The assessment is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. The results are released as The Nation’s Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers, and the public.

Only 100 8th grade students will be selected to participate. If your student was selected by NAEP, a letter will be sent home with them on Friday, January 21st. This letter will give specific information about the test and who to contact if you have questions.

TAGG

Westside Middle School participates in TAGG. TAGG has a growing list of participating businesses who will donate a portion of what you spend there to our school. WMS uses these funds to help support our school PBIS store and extra supplies teachers need throughout the year.

This is a fast and easy way to help our building without fundraising. Watch this video to see how it works. https://youtu.be/WS2u4s1J63c
