for her alleged homosexuality. Her case is the first known incident of a homosexuality related discharge being successfully fought. Her issues did not affect the military policy of excluding non-homosexuals form service.
Henry Milk
American politician who became the first openly gay person to be elected into public office in California. He didn't come out until his late 40's and wasn't interested in politics before.
LGBT
LGBT is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. It emphasizes a diversity of sexuality and gender based cultures. If you look different than what you should look like, then the government and people around you will call you these names. They've tried other words such as "queer" (term for sexual and gender minorities that aren't heterosexual). Another word is "rainbow" but some say it's for hippies and New Age movements.
DOMA
In 2013, the Supreme Court struck down parts of the Defense of Marriage Act (defined marriage as a union between man and woman) and said that the federal government would recognize same-sex marriages as legal.

On the one year anniversary of the Stonewall riots, more than 2,000 people marched in New York City. This was the first gay pride parade in the United States.
Stonewall Riots
Members of the gay LGBT community had series of multiple, violent events. They led up to the important even for the gay liberation movement and the fight for LGBT rights in the United States. Gay Americans in the 1950's and 1960's faced an anti-gay legal system. Very few places welcomed openly gay people. Most places were bars, even if the bar managers or managers weren't gay. At the time the Stonewall Inn was owned by the mafia. Drag queens, transgenders, male prostitutes and homeless kids would hang out in there. Police raids on gay bars were routine in the 60's, but the officers lost control of the situation most of the time.

The Arkansas Governor, Asa Hutchinson, allowed a bill to become a law that prevents any citizens and counties in the state from expanding anti-discrimination ordinances Beyoncé what the state already prohibits. The states laws don't include the sexual orientation or gender identity.
