A Note from the Principal
Dear Woodland Families,
It has been a wonderfully busy week here at Woodland! Students across the building are diving into their Readers' and Writers' Workshops and showing math partners on math mountains using tiny tumblers in 1st grade. Students have also began to take their NWEA Reading assessments. These assessments are given three times a year and provide information to our teachers so they can target their instruction to increase student growth. Students will also take NWEA in math. Our students (and teachers) have been very patient as we implement this new assessment and I thank them for their cooperation!
At this week's PTO meeting, Frank Lams, the Assistant Superintendent of Finance, presented information regarding the November Bond Initiative. The bond will be for just over $30 million, but will NOT require a mils increase. Funds from the bond will cover projects in every building and will lead to future operational savings. Major projects include:
- Improved safety entries
- Technology upgrades
- Lighting upgrades to LED
- Carpet replacement
- Furniture
- New boilers in several buildings
Mr. Lams and Dr. Schwarz will be leading many information sessions across the district between now and Election Day if you have questions. I have also attached the handouts that were shared at the PTO meeting.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Mrs. Schneider
WOODLAND FUN RUN
Only 2 more weeks until the Fun Run! Woodland's Fun Run will be held on Friday, October 6th this year.
Students who turn in their pledge of $5 will receive a pennant, $25 pledge will receive a Fun Run button, $50 pledge will receive a Wildcat key chain, and a pledge of $75 will receive a cool Wildcat drinking cup! For $1, you can send a shout-out to your runner and it will be announced during the Fun Run!
The Fun Run is our largest fundraising activity of the year. Our goal is to raise $11,000 to support activities here at Woodland. We work hard to not overwhelm our families with a lot of fundraisers, so please consider participating by making a pledge to our Fun Run.
Please turn in your Woodland T-shirt order by this Monday, September 25th so everyone can wear their Spirit Wear to the Fun Run!

ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT
- A student is considered chronically absent if they miss two (2) days of school per month (18 days per year). Missing just 10% (2 days/month) of school days in elementary can lead to future struggles with school.
- Students who are chronically absent or tardy in Kindergarten & 1st grade are less likely to read proficiently by 3rd grade.
- Parents should reiterate that school attendance & punctuality is important.
- Please make doctor, dentist and other appointments outside of the school day so students do not miss any of the instructional programs. If an appointment during school hours is necessary, please send a note to the office with your child in the morning.
