From the Middle EMS and ELA

News from the Principal, July 20, 2020

Hello Parents and Families,

I hope this email finds you doing well, and that you are healthy and safe.

For about the last two weeks, I've wanted to connect with you to share the latest plans for return. The difficulty lies in exactly what we've all experienced since March--ever-changing data, research, and guidance.

So, please bear in mind that this plan today will likely change between now and the beginning of school, but I'm hopeful that giving some details will help you see our thinking and next steps.

We have been hard at work this summer figuring out the details for our return to school, both for online learning (Englewood E-Learning) and in-person learning (that will include elements of "rolling remote learning.")

Many of you have also been contributing to this work by participating in advisory committees and town hall meetings as we all work to develop a path for this uncharted time.

For now, the best place to access all the information about our plans for 20-21 school year are located on this website page:

Englewood Schools will continue to develop plans for the 20-21 school year based on guidance from CDHP, Tri-County Health, Colorado Department of Education, and the governor's office. As we've all seen throughout the pandemic, information and guidance change daily, and our plan will change as we move forward, but we have created a plan that can be flexible and responsive to the needs of students and staff within current guidance.

If at anytime, you have questions, please email me.

RETURN TO SCHOOL... A Day in the Life of our Middle Schoolers

Option 1: In-Person Learning at EMS/ELA (Linked here)

In-Person Learning includes: 1. Daily temp checks/health screens, 2. Staff/students wearing masks full time and social distancing, 3. Frequent surface cleaning and hand washing, 4. Cohorts (small groups for classes, lunch, and passing periods).

While we know In-Person Learning is the best process for learning, health of everyone is foremost at this time. The necessary precautions during the COVID pandemic add new challenges.

Below is a sample schedule for a "cohort" of students. We will have multiple cohorts of students at EMS and ELA (size will be dependent on final enrollment numbers) all operating on independent schedules similar to this one below. This will allow us to maintain social distancing while in hallways, lunchrooms, and classrooms.

Please email Annessa Hart with questions.

Option 2: Englewood E-Learning (Linked Here)

Englewood Families interested in online learning for 20-21 will join the E-Learning School. If students/families want to move to in-person learning, this can be done at semester. Students do not lose their spots at EMS/ELA for in-person learning.

E-Learning will be taught by Englewood teachers who are not providing in-person learning.

Below is a sample schedule for middle school students as well as information about the different between Synchronous and Asynchronous learning.

To ensure our middle school students receive the quality education you expect from

Englewood Schools aligned state standards, we will offer coursework through a robust, accredited platform known as Edgenuity. This framework ensures our middle school students attain courses and learning necessary to prepare for high school.
